ISV drop of Nectar

August 24, 2011
 Sentient: Conscious, characterized by consciousness.
 Inattentive chanting is the root cause of other offenses.
 Death finds those who continue to chant material chants.
 When you chant the holy names your prarabhdha karma is cleared. Try going past the count of 16 rounds per
day.
 The Name is more merciful than the named. Krsna has descended in the form of His name in this kaliyuga.
 Some ashtakams that you must sing: Guruva-astaka, Namastaka, Sad-Goswami Astaka, Siksataka,
Damodarastaka.
 Three causes of disturbance of the mind:
o Ignorance
o Being in an unnatural position
o Lack of goal
 The above three can be removed by chanting.
 If you have a mix of spiritual and material desires, the spiritual desires will help overcome the material desires.
 Overdependence of another’s mercy is the cause of weakening of your existence.
 At the time of death, you have to fly your own plane.
 Your attitude can change the situation in an instrance.
 There is no enemy in this world than our own uncontrolled mind and senses.
 A devotee’s attitude is to one way or another stay alive in Krsna Consciousness.

So if you clear your cache, you should not get it at all. Also, apologies for the two cameras in Sree Mayapur not working for so long - we will try to have them working by the weekend.

Janmastami-Vyasa Puja Monthly Sankirtana Festival (MSF)

Please find below a summary of the final results from the Janmastami-Vyasa Puja Monthly Sankirtana Festival (MSF) of ‘Taking Shelter of the Holy Names’ that were offered on Monday (August 22) at the occasion celebrating Srila Prabhupada’s divine appearance day at the ISV temple in San Jose.

The goals of this MSF were:

  • To distribute at least 3501 books and
  • To raise at least $6000 in Laxmi points

To glorify Krishna, to enlighten conditioned souls and to lift them from the darkness of ignorance, ISV devotees spread the Holy Names through massive book distribution over a period of one month, starting in late July.

MSF Highlights

The highlights included: (1) distribution of over 2,000 books at the San Francisco Ratha Yatra and during two Harinama performances in Palo Alto, one of which included a children’s Rath Yatra organized by ISV Sunday school kids; (2) placement of over 2200 Bhagavad Gitas by the MotelGita team members in various motels across the US; and (3) distribution of close to one thousand books at an Indian independence day festival in Fremont.

ISV devotees also went door-to-door to distribute books and the Smart Box team distributed books at different establishments through Smart Boxes placed there. Several Srimad Bhagavatam sets were also distributed through the temple. Devotees also made Sankirtana donations including online donations to support and sponsor the cause of book distribution.

MSF Results Summary

Here is the summary of the Final Results:

In all:

  • More than 70 devotees participated in book distribution
  • They distributed 8,092 books, which crosses last year’s total of 5850 books

We are grateful to all MSF participants and all donors who contributed to sponsor and support book distribution, as well as to ISV Sankirtana leaders for their meticulous planning to successfully realize the goals of this MSF.

Janmastami-Vyasa Puja MSF of ‘Taking Shelter of the Holy Names’ ki Jaya!

On behalf of Team ISV,

Lord Jaganath at Fremont

This was the first time Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra came to Fremont and gave Their merciful darshan to all the people in Kali yuga. There was a big Parade for India's independence day celebration and the Lordships were on one ratha yatra cart. There was ecstatic kirtan led by several devotees including H.G Vaisesika Prabhu. Everyone were amazed by the kirtan. We distributed several books during the parade and many devotees participated during the parade book distribution.
After the parade, we set up a booth and we distributed quite some books and meditation kits. We gave meditation lessons and made friends with the neighbors. Sri Krsna Purusottama Prabhu was there for two days setting up the table, transporting the books and making friends with people from the other booths. He even distributed books shop to shop with in the festival. He was very merciful and gave Bhagavad Gita to the people in Art of living booth. He alone transported the books from the car to the festival site and back which shows his dedication to the Sankirtan movement of Lord Chaitanya.
We also had Vrindavan Priya Prabhu and Bhavani Mataji who took care of our table during the parade even before we asked them. They voluntarily came and stayed at the booth while everyone was at the Ratha yatra enjoying the darshan of Lord Jagannath. Vrindavan Priya prabhu distributed 35 books while we were in Parade and collected over a $100 in donation.
Kamesvari Mataji and Shailesh Prabhu were also there to set up the table on Saturday and they were in the festival both the days. Kamesveri was distributing while everyone was waiting for the parade to start and she collected $84. Damodar Prabhu was also dancing enthusiastically in the Kirtan and distributed lots of books.
Many devotees distributed books during the parade and at the booth. Rohini (Biswa Prabhu's daughter) seems very quiet, but she is a very good book distributor. She distributes books very expertly and collects nice donation as well. I have noticed her many times that she is eager to join the book distribution party. She came with us even when her parents were at the temple program during the BVT marathon.
Niral Prabhu and Khyathi Matji were distributing books and when it got very hot in the afternoon, they got water for all the devotees in the Parade. Then Tirtha Prabhu got a cart and picked up all the empty water bottles. Titha Prabhu as usual was dancing ecstatically in the kirtan. So was Bhumi’s mom.
Yash was also very enthusiastic and distributed many books in the parade. Bhumis' parents were there for two days and helped in distributing books. Chandra Prabhu, Nirja Mataji, Prurusottama Prabhu's friend also were distributing books. I may not have all the names who helped, but we are grateful to all the devotees who helped during this festival.
Janmastami Flyers: These were the most beautiful flyers that I have seen. Originally designed by Nitai Krpa Prabhu and modified by Bharani Mataji in a short notice and printed by Krsna Dharma Prabhu were super hit in the parade. Everyone wanted the flyers and we ran out of them. We distributed almost 1500 flyers during the parade.

Teamwork carries the day in New Dwaraka

During last weekend's Los Angeles Ratha Yatra, many devotees from Team ISV worked together with others to distribute books during the Ratha Yatra parade.

Here is a partial list of the participants (sent to me by Sri Krishna Purusottama Prabhu):

"Vedavit Krishna Prabhu and other Laguna Beach devotees; Damodara Vamsidhari prabhu, Anu Mataji, Vaausdev, Unnati, Vinod Prabhu, dmitriy prabhu, dhikshith prabhu, Manju mataji, Elena mataji, Aparna Lakshmi and Sri Krishna purusottama das . . . and lot of other devotees."

For six full days before the Ratha Yatra, Jaya Keshava Prabhu worked tirelessly with his crew to pack 20,000 books -- along with some other goodies – into "gift packs." Each gift pack included an Isopanisad, Beyond Birth and Death, a Jagannatha sticker, a pamphlet explaining the meaning of Ratha Yatra, an invitation to the Los Angeles temple, and a prasadam lollipop.

After Jaya Keshava Prabhu and his team assembled the gift packs, other devotees from ISV put the gift packs -- ten each -- in larger bags to be carried and distributed during the parade. Our team also placed seven very large boxes filled with thousands of gift packs on the back of the Rathas; these they took out during the parade to replenish the book supplies of the devotees distributing the gift packs along the route.

Other devotees, including Dwarkarani DD and Omkara Das of New Dwarka ordered and delivered the books, bags, stickers, lollipops, and so on, weeks before Ratha Yatra. Svavasa Prabhu, the temple president of New Dwarka, generously and enthusiastically paid for all the materials.

On the morning of Ratha Yatra, we gave an announcement inviting all the devotees at the festival to participate in distributing the books during the parade; and just outside the temple, our team distributed hundreds of bags -- full of gift packs -- for the devotees distribute.

I am happy to report that with this team effort, employing the principle of "a lot of people each doing a little," we distributed all 20,000 books in a matter of a few hours, during the Ratha Yatra!

Naturally, the people of Santa Monica and Venice Beach who saw the beautiful Rathas of Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra were eager to receive some memento from the event; all along the parade route, we saw thousands of smiling people clutching the beautiful gift packs while admiring the Lord of the universe as He, His brother & sister, and hundreds of His chanting, dancing servants passed by.

Now we are left to blissfully meditate on how all these thousands of books are strategically sitting in various homes, cars, purses, and businesses all over the Los Angeles area, waiting for sincere souls to discover them and to be mercifully directed back to Godhead.

Everyone that I have spoken with who participated in this event has told me that they are feeling blissful. This is a result of doing the sankirtana yanjna. It is truly the only way to achieve real happiness.

Personally, I will never forget this momentous occasion.

I thank all the devotees who so enthusiastically took part, and I look forward to the next opportunity to work with all of you to increase the distribution of Srila Prabhupada's transcendental books.

"The only purpose of the preachers of the sankirtana movement must be to go on preaching without restriction. That is the way in which Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu introduced this sankirtana movement to the world." (Srila Prabhupada puport to Cc Adi 9.29)

With gratitude,

Ys

Vaisesika Dasa
