Grand Diwali & Govardhan Puja Festival Celebrations at ISKCON of Silicon Valley this Weekend (Nov 2nd & 3rd 2013)

Dear Friends

Hope this meets you well. We wish you all a very happy and prosperous Diwali!

Diwali is always the most sought after festival of the year. In ancient times, Diwali was first observed by the citizens of Ayodhya to celebrate the return of their king, Lord Ramachandra, an incarnation of Krishna. The joyful day on which Lord Rama returned from 14 years of exile became known as Diwali. In another era, this was also the day when Lord Krishna performed His childhood pastime of breaking the pots of yogurt and letting Himself be bound by Mother Yashoda. Diwali is also the time when families and friends get together to strengthen their bonding and fill their lives with auspiciousness.

We, at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV), will be celebrating the Diwali festival with pomp and show and with great happiness, we extend an heartfelt invitation to all of you to join us to express our devotion and offer Puja to our beloved Sri Sri Laxmi Narasimha Deities . The Diwali Darshan of The Lordships' Sri Sri Radha Madanmohan, Sriman Mahaprabhu and Sri Sri Laxmi Narasimhadeva will be open throughout the day. Welcome the new year by inviting the Lord back into your hearts and experience the essence of Diwali here at ISV!

Special Harinaam Today at Palo Alto for the Auspicious Appearance Day of Sri Radha Kunda!

                          http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends

Hope this meets you well.

Lord Krishna has one quality which endears him to all His devotees: He is grateful even for the slightest service. But even more grateful, even more kind and even more merciful is Srimathi Radharani. Therefore Her name is Karunamayi - She who is filled with mercy and compassion.

This Saturday, October 26th, marks the auspicious appearance day of Sri Radha Kund, the most sacred pond. Radha Kunda is located in northwest part of Vraja (the area near Vrindavana) 100 km south from capitol Delhi. Gaudiya-vaisnavas consider this lake of Srimati Radharani to be the most sacred place on Earth. Radha Kunda is situated on the parikrama (pilgrimage) road around the Govardhana Hill. The whole Govardhana is about 11 km long and by its shape it resembles the form of a peacock. Both ponds - Radha Kunda and Syama Kunda - are like its eyes.

Srila Rupa Goswami, the greatest preceptor in the line of Gaudiya Vaishnavas states in his important work, Nectar of Instruction, says, 'The holy place known as Mathura is spiritually superior to Vaikuntha, the transcendental world, because the Lord appeared there. Superior to Mathura puri is the transcendental forest of Vrindavana because of Krishna's rasalila pastimes. And superior to the forest of Vrindavana is Govardhana Hill, for it was raised by the divine hand of Sri Krishna and was the site of his various loving pastimes. And, above all, the super excellent Sri Radha Kunda stands supreme, for it is over flooded with the ambrosial nectarean love of the Lord of Gokula, Sri Krishna. Where, then, is that intelligent person who is unwilling to serve this divine Radha Kunda, which is situated at the foot of Govardhana Hill?".

In order to celebrate this most auspicious day, we at ISKCON of Silicon Valley, extend a warm welcome to you to join us today (Friday, October 25th) for a special Harinaam (congregational chanting of the Lord's Holy Names) in the streets of Palo Alto and distribute the divine mercy in the month of Kartik to all. Please join us for this wonderful activity and benefit not only yourselves but also others.

                               SPECIAL HARINAAM SANKIRTAN FOR KARTIKA

When: Friday, October 25th @ 6.59pm (Please come as early as possible)

Where: Palo Alto, University Avenue

(The cross street will be either Emerson or Bryant, depending on the best facility available. So if you don't see devotees at University and Emerson, go east toward Bryant and look there!)

In one of the purports in Bhagavad Gita, Srila Prabhupada says, "As stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the incarnation in the Age of Kali is Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who spread the worship of Krsna by the Sankirtana movement (congregational chanting of the holy names) and spread Krsna consciousness throughout India. He predicted that this culture of Sankirtana would be broadcast all over the world, from town to town and village to village. Lord Caitanya as the incarnation of Krsna, the Personality of Godhead, is described secretly but not directly in the confidential parts of the revealed scriptures, such as the Upanisads, Mahabharata, Bhagavatam, etc. The devotees of Lord Krsna are much attracted by the Sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya. This avatara of the Lord does not kill the miscreants, but delivers them by His causeless mercy." (BG 4.8 Purport)

Lord Krishna has one quality which endears him to all His devotees: He is grateful even for the slightest service. But even more grateful, even more kind and even more merciful is Srimathi Radharani. Therefore Her name is Karunamayi - She who is filled with mercy and compassion.

During this month - the month of Kartika - the greatest amount of divine mercy is available. It's the mercy month. Thus, all of us should take full advantage. When we search our heart and find something - some devotional service - that we would like to daily offer Srimati Radharani, then we will become spiritually rewarded beyond our expectations.

Do you know how to find out how rich you really are? Count how many things you have that money can't buy! Divine mercy is the greatest wealth. It waits for all of us in this month of Kartika. Special Evening Program Today at ISV for Kartik & Gita Chapter A Day (CHAD)

                          http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends

Hope this meets you well.

Today is the auspicious beginning of the month of Kartik also known as the 'Damodar Maas'. The result of any spiritual activity performed in this month will yield glorious results and therefore we often find devotees performing special austerities and visiting holy places like Sri Vrindavan Dham, Sridham Mayapur etc. during this time. For those of us who are not able to travel to these holy places,we have the good fortune of celebrating Kartik at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) in the association of devotees. Devotees eagerly look forward to the Kartik month every year in order to enrich their spiritual experience by rendering devotional service with extra focus, sincerity and devotion. In order to enrich your spiritual bliss, we at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) are hosting a variety of programs and events during this month. We request you to please take advantage of these activities and perfect your Krsna Consciousness. The details are listed below.

With great happiness in our hearts, we extend a warm welcome to you all to join us today at ISV for a special evening on the fist day of the most auspicious month of Kartik to offer our love and devotion by singing the Damodarastakam prayers, hearing a beautiful discourse on the pastimes of Lord Damodar and offering ghee lamps to Their Lordships.

GITA CHAPTER A DAY (CHAD)

Chapter A Day (CHAD), initiated by the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV), is a worldwide alliance of devotees who chant atleast one chapter of Bhagavad Gita As It Is everyday. We have been having this program for many years now and several devotees from various parts of the world have been immensely benefited by chanting one chapter of Bhagavad Gita a day. In order to make it more interactive, ISV also hosts a conference call every Monday - Friday from 12.30 - 12.45 pm for devotees to dial in and recite the Bhagavad Gita together.

Behavioral scientists and professors at Harvard Business School researched, "People engage in many disciplines for reasons ranging from reducing their anxiety to boosting their confidence and alleviating their grief. The disciples may not have a definite intention of what he may desire to obtain, but it is still surprising how everyday disciplines make a lot of sense and are surprisingly effective." (Francesca Gino and Michael I. Norton)

If this holds true for materialistic disciplines, why not make a spiritual discipline to recite a chapter of Bhagavad-gita every day and become true disciples by getting the real knowledge of spirit? Kartik is here & we all know that the Vratas (disciplines) that are taken in the month of Kartik are multiplied hundreds of times and their benefit remains with the practitioner for hundreds of lifetimes. Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita that one who reads this, worships him with ones intellect. Isn't this perfect for the modern age?

How to make a CHAD displine?

1.Make a vow to chant the 4th chapter of Bhagavad-gita As It Is everyday until Nov 17 2013. You may also choose to recite any other chapter you may prefer.Chant all the Sanskrit shlokas; or all the English translations; or both the Sanskrit and English. For added purification read one purport also. Srila Prabhupad's purpose are his transcendental ecstasies and they serve as a torch light and guide on our way back to Godhead.

2.Email recite.chad@gmail.com to enroll & receive the 4th chapter in CHAD format. Print it and carry it with you where you go.(Waiting in queue at the bank or app takes longtime to load? Chant your chapter!)

4.Report your performance and receive a transcendental gift at the end of Kartik.

Here is an opportunity to make your day harmonious and auspicious by reciting one chapter of Bhagavad-Gita in the association of devotees. We also read one purport of Srila Prabhupad every day. There is nothing more nectarean than Srila Prabhupada's divine purports. If you would like to join our daily conference calls to read the Gita with other devotees, please dial into the below number. It is refreshing to take a quick lunch break and spiritually charge yourself by listening to Bhagavad-Gita.

Conference dial-in number: (559) 726-1200

Participant access code: 445865

         FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18

                                                          FIRST DAY OF KARTIK

THE HIDDEN MEANING OF LORD DAMODAR'S PLAYFUL PASTIMES & SIGNIFICANCE OF KARTIK MONTH

Speaker: H.G. Amala Bhakta Das

Venue: ISKCON of Silicon Valley

1965 Latham Street Mountain View CA 94040

Time: 6.30 – 8.00pm

Discourse will be followed by Arotik and Prasadam

Amal Bhakta was born in New York City and attended New York University. He moved to Santa Monica, California in 1954 and worked in motion pictures for three years. Then, after an epiphany, he embarked on a journey to find the true purpose of life. On discovering it, he returned to New York in 1957 to study and then later teach the science of ashtanga yoga. In 1963 he directed a yoga center, gradually building it up from a few regular students to about 400. He also lectured regularly, wrote articles on yoga in national magazines, occasionally demonstrated yoga exercises on TV, and counseled students privately. Although he taught some spiritual knowledge, his chief interest was in showing people how to achieve a healthy body and a serene mind.

In 1976, wanting to deepen his realization of the Divine, he moved to West Los Angeles to study at the ISKCON temple various aspects of Bhakti yoga (the yoga of love and devotion to God) under the famous spiritual master A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. From this highly advanced teacher, Amal Bhakta was initiated into techniques that enabled him to attain and maintain inner peace, joy, and strength continuously, even under the most trying conditions. He also became an expert in explaining some of India's ancient classics, such as the Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharata, with a view to helping people acquire virtue, wisdom, self-knowledge and God-realization.

Amal Bhakta still resides near the same temple in Los Angeles, teaching, counseling, and lecturing regularly, but he also travels extensively to other states and countries, performing similar services. He has also written the four published books displayed on this website, and has produced, directed, and narrated hundreds of hours of audio books, both dramatic and non-dramatic, mostly written by his spiritual master, for Krishna Productions. Amal Bhakta's books are about India's divine incarnations and saints, and are designed to assist truth-seekers in viewing ideal devotees of God to model their lives around.

                          http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/
Dear Friends

Hope this meets you well.

This Friday, October 18th marks the beginning of the month of Kartik also known as the Damodar month. Kartik (Damodar) is the best, the purest of purifiers, and most glorious of all months. Kartik month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krishna. Any vrata or austerities, even the smallest, will yield huge results. The effect of performing a Kartik Vrata lasts for one hundred lifetimes, Kartik or the festival of offering lamps to Lord Krishna, glorifies Lord Krishna's pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda.

The best place to celebrate the auspicious festival of Kartik in the Bay Area is the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV). With great happiness in our hearts, we invite you and your family to celebrate Kartik by joining us for our weekly programs throughout the entire month.

Special Dusshera Celebrations today at ISV with a Puppet Show!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well. Wish you all a happy and prosperous Dusshera!

It is an open secret that those who have a vision and live it attain something wonderful, whereas those who do not have a vision, or who have lost it, encounter only obstacles or, at best, live an ordinary life. It is so important to identify an inspiring vision and then keep it before one's eyes. Also, someone who acts with a vision attracts an enormous amount of help and support. He/She will find that people rush forward to support a person who has a vision and keep it in front of their eyes.

Here at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV), one can get the powerful vision through the eyes of the scriptures. Many lives have been transformed by the powerful association at ISV. The events and discourses are very meaningful and one can go deeper into his/her life just by mere attendance.

Its with great pleasure, we extend a warm welcome to you and your family to join us today for the Sunday Feast program.

SUNDAY LOVE FEAST - SPECIAL DUSSERA CELEBRATIONS

"KILLING THE RAVANA WITHIN"

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna tells us that the senses, mind and the intelligence are the sitting places of this lust. Through them the lust covers the real knowledge of the living entitya and bewilders him. Cure is also given by Lord Krishna in the Gita by saying, "In the very beginning curb this greatest symbol of sin (lust) by regulating the senses, and slay this destroyer of knowledge and self-realization.". Join us this Sunday as we hear and understand this very important verse in the Bhagavad Gita through a parallel story from the Ramayana where the Supreme Lord Ramachandra, showed how this all devouring sinful enemy of can be conquered through the example of lust personified Ravana.

Also, on the auspicious occasion of Dusshera (Vijaya Dashami) ISV drama team would like to present a puppet show depicting the wonderful pastime of Ravana's killing at the hands of Lord Ramachandra. Puppet shows not only allow us to relish Lord's divine pastimes in an unique way but are also entertaining for children and adults alike. Hope you all will be able to join us on this festive occasion
