Dear ISV Family,
Amor Hrydo Pranam Kori,
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
This year was a special year. We had the much-awaited Janmastami celebrations at two places, our temple in San Jose and our temple in Mountain View where the Lordships will reside soon. Though we did not have the luxury of renting extra space at the Fencing Academy as we did in the past, the event ran smooth and we made the most of what we have. Sri Krsna Janmastami was followed by an equally joyous occasion the very next day. The Appearance Day of our very dear Srila Prabhupada!
The telephone rang throughout the day with devotees asking about the event. It was heartening to see them come in multitudes and being well taken care of, from the time they took off their shoes when they came in for darshan, to the time they reluctantly put them on to leave.
Srila Prabhupada was heavy on offering proper respects and conveniences to the guests. Lord Caitanya Himself set the example: After everyone had finished his lunch and washed his mouth and hands, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu personally decorated everyone with flower garlands and sandalwood pulp. [Cc. Madhya 11.210]
In Vedic society every guest, even an enemy, is seen as Krsna's representative. For us at ISV the simple rule of thumb was: Treat guests as we ourselves would like to be treated. And this rule was followed to the dot!
How did we do it? With your help of course! And it was not easy this year, since the two festivals fell on week days. You helped us round the clock, days in advance, and days after the event, in all aspects: planning, organizing, purchasing, chopping, cooking, cleaning, printing, book packing, altar services, decoration, discourse services, evangelizing, meeting and greeting the guests, broadcasting, setting up infrastructure distributing prasadam, we distributed thousands of books and thousands plates of prasadam, and able to bringing everything back to the original condition, … the list is endless.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your selfless service! We know Krsna is pleased with you, because He is pleased when His devotees are pleased!
We have a small token of appreciation for you for your selfless, enthusiastic and tireless service. Please come to the temple today to personally receive during the evening program it from the lotus hands of our temple president H.G. Vaisesika Prabhu!
With immense Gratitude,
Humbly in service
Hansapriya devi dasi
