Visit the ISKCON Of Silicon Valley to welcome the "Bless"-ful New Year 2014!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

As 2013 draws to a closure, we at the ISKCON Of Silicon Valley (ISV), want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our patrons, guests and well wishers for your continued help and support. This year has been an ecstatic year for ISV, for we stepped into our very own new temple at Mountain View. With this new temple premises, we are slowly and steadily increasing our efforts to spread Lord Caitanya's Sankirtana movement through our various projects and activities for the benefit of the Silicon Valley residents. We feel joyful to see the increasing number of guests coming to ISV's weekly programs as our purpose and goal is to help people make steady progress on their spiritual path and make their lives all auspicious by taking to the process of Krsna consciousness.

A new year is a land mark in our lives and a time for reflection on where we have been, where we are and where we want to go. We live in an age of mass distraction with the increasing number of sensory inputs we absorb in one day. Canned music in every shop, advertising on every available surface, endless streams of emails and texts to our smartphones, what to speak of TV, newspapers and magazines. It's no wonder it's hard to sit still for a while without pulling out our phones or switching on the TV. In the midst of all these connections, we are increasingly disconnected as human beings. To achieve meaning filled success in our lives, we need strength beyond ourselves and association of sincere souls. It's important that we meditate on our purpose in life and that will guarantee an eternal life, beyond the temporary existence of this world.

With immense joy, we welcome you all to the ISKCON of Silicon Valley and request you to show your continued presence at our events, thereby making a positive transformation in your lives. One more year has passed and as we step into a new year, we would like to extend a warm invitation to you and your family to come to ISV and give a strong foundation to your life and make the forthcoming years positive and successful by taking steps to progress on the spiritual path. It is indeed a joyful experience!

The devotees at ISV were engaged in a three month campaign of distributing 19,065 Bhagavad Gitas to the people of Bay area and outside, to commemorate the Gita Jayanthi Festival in December 2013. With a huge target, it was a difficult task at hand. During this time, the Gitas were placed in motels, hospitals, prison houses apart from distributing the books at local events and door-door. As we draw close to the end, we would like to complete the campaign by offering the results to our Deities and our founder Acharya, Srila Prabhupada on Sunday. We welcome you all to join us for the first Sunday Feast program of 2014!

Speaker: H.G. Vaisesika Das

6.00pm: Arotik followed by Sandhya Arati and Prasadam

First held in 1966 at the request of Srila Prabhupada (the founder of the Hare Krishna movement), the Sunday Love Feast has evolved as an integrated celebration of Lord Krishna's pastimes: chanting, hearing spiritual knowledge, dancing, eating and generally sharing the bliss of Lord Krsna's presence. Since then, this weekly Sunday Love Feast festival is celebrated in all Hare Krishna temples around the world. We extend a warm and hearty welcome to you, your friends and family. Please join us at ISV for this wonderful event every Sunday.

Build a Strong Foundation for a Successful 2014 at ISV: Classes & Events in the Last Week of 2013!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well. Wish you all a happy holidays!

Real wisdom is to build our life on a strong foundation. This world is a place of dualities and no one, whatever their position may be, can escape from these dualities. There is success and failure, honor and dishonor, pleasure and pain, happiness and distress, victory and defeat. If we build a strong internal foundation in life, then whatever comes in our life—the ups, the downs, the rewards, the trials—we can grow from, we can gain experience from. We can deepen our love through any situation that comes upon us. A really successful person is one who sees a positive opportunity in every situation in life. A diamond is nothing but an ordinary piece of coal, which with the help of nature's wisdom, has transformed into a precious jewel under extreme pressure. Pressure can make us, pressure can break us. And even success, honor and glorification can make us or break us. To make a positive transformation takes a strong foundation. We should perform our duties with full power and determination and enthusiasm, and not be attached to the results of our duties. A happy, clear-thinking and fulfilling life requires that we learn the art of controlling the mind rather than being controlled by it.

We welcome you to the ISKCON of Silicon Valley, where the devotees congregate every week to learn the deeper and subtle aspects of life and make a positive transformation based on the hearing the truth from the Vedic scriptures. One more year has passed and as we step into a new year, we would like to extend a warm invitation to you and your family to come to ISV and give a strong foundation to your life and make the forthcoming years positive and successful by taking steps to progress on the spiritual path. It is indeed a joyful experience!

Dear Friends,

Wishing you all happy holidays and a prosperous New Year 2014!

While most of us are making preparations to merrily celebrate the holiday season, there are many people out there who are struggling to meet their ends and to find hope and peace in their lives. Over the decades, there have been a rampant increase in violence, teen suicides, child abuse, drug addiction, school shootings and so many different kinds of destructive incidents which is making the world a dangerous and unsafe place to live. Noble qualities such as compassion, tolerance, sacrifice and morality are being lost and people are looking for serious alternatives to find mental peace and hope for a happy life.

In today's age of profit over principles, there is a great need for Bhagavad Gita As It Is, one of the greatest literary works, which contains the spiritual potency to revive the dormant spiritual qualities of the suffering living entities. It is not only a perfect road map for human life, it also teaches one how to overcome all the inevitable anomalies and reversals of life and live a content life.

"Give the Gita' campaign reaches out to thousands of people in North America by giving them the Bhagavad Gita As It Is, which is a great literary work valued by great philosophers and thinkers such as Martin Luther King, Emerson, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela, Thoreau etc. The aim of this campaign is to spread the message of love and peace through the wisdom of Gita. The Bhagavad Gita advocates love at its purest form. The fulfillment that we are all seeking is found in the sharing of this love. Gita reveals the message of peace, both individually and collectively. The teachings of Bhagavad Gita, when applied, will awaken the intrinsic love and divine qualities within the human beings which will help them become content and happy thus making this world a better place!

With your support today, we can reach out to many distressed people and give them the gift of hope by placing the Bhagavad Gita's at venues that are most accessible to everyone

Enter into the Holiday Season With A Dose of Spiritual Nourishment at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

The musk deer is referenced in Sanskrit poetry and philosophy owing to its peculiar behavior. Prized by the perfume industry for its exceptional aroma, musk is one of the world's most expensive natural products, fetching more than three times its weight in gold. The aroma of musk is so alluring that when the stag's sensitive nose catches the wind of it, he roams the forest day and night in pursuit of its source. He exhausts himself in a fruitless quest, never realizing the bitter irony: the sweet fragrance he was chasing resided nowhere but within himself. Musk is produced by a gland in the stag's very own navel: it was searching without for what was all along lying within. Similarly, we are all pleasure-seeking creatures wandering a forest of some sort and are prone to the same type of folly as the deer: we seek our happiness externally. Yes, the true treasure lies within us. And that is nothing but love. The purpose of human life is to uncover that divine love. The fulfillment we are seeking is found in the sharing of this love. But because our heart is filled with the dirt of false ego, we are searching for happiness in material things. This true love can be awakened by the process of inner cleansing through understanding our relationship with God, offering prayers, rendering loving service and chanting the divine names of God. When our intrinsic love is awakened and our divine qualities shine through, we will not only find the pleasure we have been seeking but also become powerful agents of change in the world. At the ISKCON of Silicon Valley, we strive to awaken our dormant love for God through the beautiful process of Bhakti Yoga (The Yoga of Devotion) and on the strength of devotional service, we experience profound happiness and peace.

With great happiness in our hearts, we extend a warm invitation to you and your family to join us at ISV as we progress in our journey in search of our lost love -  love for God. We welcome to join us for the classes and events this week!

Give the Gita & Receive Unlimited Blessings of Lord Krishna Today on Gita Jayanthi - Moksada Ekadasi

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

Today is the auspicious day of Gita Jayanthi which marks the advent of Srimad Bhagavad Gita. It is a day that is very dear to Lord Krishna and His devotees. The sacred scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita is non-different from the Lord Himself, as it emanated directly from His lotus mouth. One who reads the Bhagavad Gita on this auspicious day, receives the unlimited blessings of Lord Sri Krsna. Also on this occasion, its a tradition for people to distribute the Bhagavad Gitas to a deserving person. In the Bhagavad-Gita, Chapter 18, texts 68 and 69, Krishna says, "For one who explains this supreme secret (Bhagavad-Gita) to the devotees, pure devotional service is guaranteed, and at the end he will come back to Me. There is no servant in this world more dear to Me than he, nor will there ever be one more dear."

One of the cherished projects of ISV is to distribute spiritual books to common people to educate them on the highest and most important knowledge and show them the path for ultimate success. Our founder Acharya, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, came to the West at the age of seventy out of compassion to spread the message of Godhead and help people to realize the most important goal of their lives. He wrote so many books in order to spread the knowledge and many people have found solace and embraced Krsna consciousness by reading those books. One such book is "Bhagavad Gita As It Is", a commentary on the Gita. Many great philosophers and thinkers like Emerson, Gandhi, Thoreau, Einstein etc. have read the "Bhagavad Gita As It Is" and drew valuable insights.

'Give the Gita' is an annual campaign organized by the ISKCON of Silicon Valle  geared towards distributing a targeted goal of Gitas to commemorate the Gita Jayanthi Festival. The Gitas are being placed at motels, chapels, prison houses, hospitals, schools and Corporates. The volunteers also go door to door to meet people and share the Gitas apart from distributing them at local festivals, events etc.

The aim of this campaign is to spread the message of love and peace through the wisdom of Gita. The Bhagavad Gita advocates love at its purest form. The fulfillment that we are all seeking is found in the sharing of this love. Gita reveals the message of peace, both individually and collectively. The teachings of Bhagavad Gita, when applied, will awaken our intrinsic love and divine qualities and will enable us to not only find the pleasure we have been seeking but also become powerful agents of change in the world.

The target set for last year's 'Give the Gita' campaign themed as "MSF of Krsna's Most Dear Servant" was to distribute 16,108 books of Bhagavad Gita in two months. Our energetic volunteers worked around the clock and surpassed the target by distributing more than 17,500 Gitas.  Many people who received the Gita responded with messages of gratitude for it has been a life changing experience for many. The campaign this year is named, "MSF of Miracle in Latham Street' geared towards the goal of distributing atleast 19,065 Bhagavad Gita's. The Gitas are being distributed at the hospitals, chapels, motels and senior care centers. We are very grateful to all our sponsors for their generous donations which has benefited so many people.

This campaign is made possible due to the kind donations offered by generous people like yourself. We once again appeal to you to help us complete our campaign by meeting all of our goals and helping the world to become a better place. Each case of Bhagavad Gita contains 24 books and costs $108. We place Gitas for free at the chapels, hospitals, prison houses, schools and motels across North America and we always look for sponsors to support this cause. By sponsoring one case of the Gita, you will earn a tile which will help in unveiling the "Mystery Tile Wall". Each book that you sponsor will be distributed on your/your loved one's names with a sticker labeled on the book.  Most importantly,  you get the opportunity to touch someone's heart and bring them closer to Krsna.

If you would like to sponsor Bhagavad Gitas on this most auspicious day, please visit http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/campaign/. We would like to extend a warm invitation to all of you to join us today to chant the entire Bhagavad Gita at ISV.

Venue: ISKCON of Silicon Valley

1965 Latham Street Mountain View CA 94040

Thursday, December 12 2013

Time: 5.00 PM onwards

Chanting of Gita will be followed by Arotik and Prasadam

With Gratitude

Festivals at ISV - Letter and Invitation from His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu for you.

Dear highly esteemed ISV devotees,

Please accept my heartfelt obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

There's something special about the last few weeks of the year.

Do you feel it?

It's a craving to complete the year with a flourish and to feel the satisfaction of having taken every opportunity to advance in spiritual life.

During the last few weeks of December, the Bay Area is abuzz with energy. People are out traveling, meeting, greeting and giving.

When January comes and the holidays are over, the energy will go flat.

Therefore, I have a proposal:

Let's regroup and give one last big push the during the last few weeks of 2013. After that, we can all take time to rest, repair, reflect and make new goals for 2014.

Hare Krishna!

Here are some key opportunities coming up this week:

This Thursday and Sunday (December 12th, 15th, starting at 5pm and 4pm, respectively) come to ISV to celebrate Lord Krishna's speaking of the Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna, Gita Jayanti.

All of us are indebted to Lord Krishna for speaking the Bhagavad-gita.

"Krishna is so merciful that simply by aiming His instructions at Arjuna, He has given protection to the whole world."

(Sri Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya lila 22.56)

Gita Jayanti is a unique opportunity to remember Krishna by chanting the Gita with full concentration in the association of devotees.

Veterans of ISV can get ready to welcome many first-time guests who will be joining us for Gita Jayanti.

Next, please join us on Friday, December 13th, for a public Harinama Sankirtana performance in downtown Palo Alto. (Starts at 6:59pm.)

(This will likely be our last Harinama performance for 2013.)

When we all come together for the public chanting of the holy name, something magical happens. Devotees feel supreme happiness and thousand of passersby get the mercy of the Holy Name.

Finally, Saturday, December 14th is World Enlightenment Day. On this day, all over the world, devotees go out to distribute transcendental books. No commitment is too small. Join in for 15 minutes, commit to distributing just one book, or assist others who are going out. When we're all in it together it's fun and effective: "a lot of devotees each doing a little brings a big result."

Each of us has only a set number of days to live out our lives on this earth. Every moment that one engages in bhakti is a moment well used.

 The sages at Naimisarnya say:

"Both by rising and by setting, the sun decreases the duration of life of everyone, except one who utilizes the time by discussing topics of the all-good Personality of Godhead."

Please join us with gusto for these joyous activities and take a giant leap toward the goal of life, going back to Godhead.

Thank you very much for all that you do.

I look forward to serving with you side-by-side.

 With gratitude and affection,

 Vaisesika Dasa

Welcome to ISV for the auspicious Gita Jayanthi Festival - Advent of Srimad Bhagavad Gita and much more!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

This week marks the auspicious advent of Srimad Bhagavad Gita also known as the Gita Jayanthi festival. It is an annual celebration to commemorate the day when Lord Krishna rendered His philosophical teachings - immortalized in the epic Mahabharata - to prince Arjuna on the first day of the 18-day battle of Kurukshetra. When prince Arjuna refused to fight against his cousins, the Kauravas in the battle, Lord Krishna expounded the truth of life and the different processes of yoga to him, thereby giving birth to one of the world's greatest scriptures, the Gita. The Bhagavad Gita is organized in 18 chapters and contains 700 verses. In its true meaning, the word 'yoga' means 'the process of linking'. It refers to the process of linking ourselves and our activities to the Supreme Being. Bhagavad Gita answers questions regarding the existence of the body, soul, material and spiritual worlds, duties of a man and much more. Many great philosophers and thinkers such as Emerson, Thoreau, Gandhi, Einstein etc. have lauded the value of Bhagavad Gita in their lives.

With great happiness in our hearts, we extend a warm invitation to you and your family to celebrate the Gita Jayanthi festival at ISV this week. Also this week is filled with wonderful activities with a special kirtan night on Wednesday and Harinam sankirtana on Friday at Palo Alto. We request you to join us for these ecstatic events and give us your valuable association.

BHAJAN NIGHT

Please join us to meditate on the beautiful forms of the Deity and chant to your heart's content. Krishna notices chanters even if they don't notice Him - and He thinks of them. As said one of the Acharyas, "When someone chants the Lord's name, the Lord's mind dwells on him. Krishna thinks, "This person belongs to Me. I will always protect him!". Chanting the holy names in Kirtan creates deep impressions and attracts the Lord.

HARINAM SANKIRTANA @ DOWNTOWN PALO ALTO

When: Friday, December 13th @ 6.59pm (Please come as early as possible)

Where: Palo Alto, University Avenue

(The cross street will be either Emerson or Bryant, depending on the best facility available. So if you don't see devotees at University and Emerson, go east toward Bryant and look there!)

In one of the purports in Bhagavad Gita, Srila Prabhupada says, "As stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the incarnation in the Age of Kali is Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who spread the worship of Krsna by the Sankirtana movement (congregational chanting of the holy names) and spread Krsna consciousness throughout India. He predicted that this culture of Sankirtana would be broadcast all over the world, from town to town and village to village. Lord Caitanya as the incarnation of Krsna, the Personality of Godhead, is described secretly but not directly in the confidential parts of the revealed scriptures, such as the Upanisads, Mahabharata, Bhagavatam, etc. The devotees of Lord Krsna are much attracted by the Sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya. This avatara of the Lord does not kill the miscreants, but delivers them by His causeless mercy." (BG 4.8 Purport)
