Dear highly esteemed ISV devotees,
Please accept my heartfelt obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
There's something special about the last few weeks of the year.
Do you feel it?
It's a craving to complete the year with a flourish and to feel the satisfaction of having taken every opportunity to advance in spiritual life.
During the last few weeks of December, the Bay Area is abuzz with energy. People are out traveling, meeting, greeting and giving.
When January comes and the holidays are over, the energy will go flat.
Therefore, I have a proposal:
Let's regroup and give one last big push the during the last few weeks of 2013. After that, we can all take time to rest, repair, reflect and make new goals for 2014.
Hare Krishna!
Here are some key opportunities coming up this week:
This Thursday and Sunday (December 12th, 15th, starting at 5pm and 4pm, respectively) come to ISV to celebrate Lord Krishna's speaking of the Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna, Gita Jayanti.
All of us are indebted to Lord Krishna for speaking the Bhagavad-gita.
"Krishna is so merciful that simply by aiming His instructions at Arjuna, He has given protection to the whole world."
(Sri Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya lila 22.56)
Gita Jayanti is a unique opportunity to remember Krishna by chanting the Gita with full concentration in the association of devotees.
Veterans of ISV can get ready to welcome many first-time guests who will be joining us for Gita Jayanti.
Next, please join us on Friday, December 13th, for a public Harinama Sankirtana performance in downtown Palo Alto. (Starts at 6:59pm.)
(This will likely be our last Harinama performance for 2013.)
When we all come together for the public chanting of the holy name, something magical happens. Devotees feel supreme happiness and thousand of passersby get the mercy of the Holy Name.
Finally, Saturday, December 14th is World Enlightenment Day. On this day, all over the world, devotees go out to distribute transcendental books. No commitment is too small. Join in for 15 minutes, commit to distributing just one book, or assist others who are going out. When we're all in it together it's fun and effective: "a lot of devotees each doing a little brings a big result."
Each of us has only a set number of days to live out our lives on this earth. Every moment that one engages in bhakti is a moment well used.
The sages at Naimisarnya say:
"Both by rising and by setting, the sun decreases the duration of life of everyone, except one who utilizes the time by discussing topics of the all-good Personality of Godhead."
Please join us with gusto for these joyous activities and take a giant leap toward the goal of life, going back to Godhead.
Thank you very much for all that you do.
I look forward to serving with you side-by-side.
With gratitude and affection,
Vaisesika Dasa
