Whenever we plan to change locations, even for a few hours, we generally need to make preparations according to the exact nature of the new environment. If we are going to a formal event, then we make sure we are dressed in suitable attire. Similarly, when artists intend to perform for an audiene, they usually practice rigorously beforehand. We, too, all have some places to go. All the major scriptures emphasize that we have a home situated far beyond the mundane reality in which we find ourselves temporarily. The scriptures underline the fact that we are eternal, but as we look at our lives, we cannot help but realize that everything is relative. This impermanence indicates that we are out of place. Therefore, we want to prepare ourselves to regain what we have lost, to receive the marvelous treasures that await us. Moving expediently towards the goal entails an adjustment in mental orientation which aligns with a Higher Power. This week, we will continue to hear from the Second Canto where Sukadeva Goswami advises how to cheat death before it cheats us, and how to make our life a success through the step-by-step process of bhakti yoga.
