The Monthly Sankirtana Festival (MSF) of *Anartha-Nivritti, held to celebrate the divine appearance of Lord Nrsimhadeva, was concluded on Wednesday, May 26th, with the offering of the final results during the Nrsimha Chaturdasi festival held at the ISV temple in San Jose.
(*Anaratha-Nivritti: “The process of freeing oneself from unwanted desires in the heart.”)
In keeping with the spirit of Lord Nrsimhadeva’s causeless mercy and compassion, and following in the footsteps of Sri Prahlada Maharaja, ISV devotees participated in two weekends of Sankirtana on May 14-16th and 21-23rd.
On Friday, May 14th and 21st, they performed Hari Nama Sankirtana in Palo Alto and on Saturday/Sunday, May 15-16th and May 22-23rd, they did massive book distribution all over the Bay Area, including door-to-door distribution through several apartment complexes. During this MSF, Bhagavad Gitas were dispatched and placed in motels all across the US and books were distributed also via the Smart Box placed in local establishments in the Bay Area.
The MSF goals were to:
- · Distribute at least 2400 books
- · Meditate on a verse spoken by Sri Prahlada Maharaja
- · Plan a bold new initiative for spreading of Krsna Consciousness through introduction of a new course (to be coordinated by Kishore Prabhu)
- · Recite and hear together the pastimes of the appearance of Lord Nrsimhadeva in Srimad Bhagavatam (readings led by HG Vaisesika Prabhu)
We are pleased to report that all these Team ISV goals have been met and we once again surpassed our book distribution target.
Here is a summary of the results from our book distribution. In all,
- More than 60 devotees participated
- Totally 4071 books were distributed, consisting of 2321 books from MSF distribution (including 145 via Smart Box) and 1750 Gitas to motels and their owners
- Totally $6,116 in Laxmi points were collected (including donations).
