In this age of distraction, we are bombarded with distractions coming at us from every direction. Eating on the run. texting while driving are very few of the symptoms of our modern 'distracted living' society. We are constantly surrounded by beeping mobiles , email notifications, Facebook/Twitter messages, endless amount of reading material, unlimited opportunities for internet shopping & gossip, constantly blaring television and so much more, all asking for our attention and desires.
With all these distractions constantly battling for our attention in the superficial e-world, we hardly find time to focus on a single activity in the real world. Our minds are aimlessly distracted endlessly. We lose our internal capacity to go deep into any constructive spiritual or material activity.
In his illuminating lecture on 'Simplicity' , HG Vaisesika prabhu mentioned,"...You have to fix your intention and when your 'intention' is fixed then you can fix your 'attention'... Your attention connects you to the object you are focused on. Think in terms of 'less is more'. When more things flow into consciousness it doesn't make one richer or better, but the less I have to distract me, the more I can concentrate on Krishna's names, on hearing and chanting, on my service and serving the devotees, then I actually have wealthy life . When the heart is satisfied by Krishna consciousness, then the mind gives up its frantic search for happiness in the material world and becomes our friend.
Satisfaction is available for those who take this process very seriously. One can actually attain a happiness in heart. ...if you can focus your mind or take the time to concentrate when you chant japa and experience the holy name then you can feel the effect of the holy name - all knowledge, detachment and bliss. That will prevent your mind from flying all over the universe. If you are connected to the correct network - the actual place where you are meant to connect...tasmad ekena manasa..then it will stay home and it will not roam over the universe and torture you by the frantic search for something else."
At the beginning of his lecture HG Vaisesika Prabhu mentioned that by reading one chapter of Bhagavad-Gita every day we can reestablish our relationship with Krishna. Following his instructions, let us recite - with full attention - Chapter 7 every day, starting from today (the all-auspicious Ekadashi) until 5 Apr 2013 & connect with our dear Lord Krishna.
