Entering a New Phase of ISV History

Dear ISV Devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We are pleased to announce that for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada and Their Lordships Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Sri Sri Radha-Madanamohana and Sri Sri Laksmi-Nrsimhadeva, ISKCON of Silicon Valley has now become the title owner of 1965 Latham Street, Mountain View. HARIBOL!

We now enter a new phase in the history of the ISV Sankirtan program, and I am sure the entire ISV community is excited by this news.

There are many new challenges that lie ahead. For one thing, we will now embark on a large project of repairs and renovation including building an adequate kitchen, installing new bathrooms in another location, repairing part of the roof and replacing another part, soundproofing the temple room as far as possible, building the altar (possibly with new altarpieces), installing a large vyasasana for a full sized murti of Srila Prabhupada, and much more. It will take an estimated four months or possibly more before we will be ready to welcome Srila Prabhupada and Their Lordships into their new home.

Another challenge will be to maintain good relations with the neighbors in the new location after we move in, which means being very conscious of how loud we are being and the parking situation and maintaining a generally nice and neat appearance of the facilities at all times. We plan to do some landscaping and make a nicely tended garden in front of the building.

Also, in keeping with our mood of "Ananda Vardhana", expanding the bliss, we hope to welcome and integrate many new members of the congregation in our new and expanded home base facility, and we will be counting on our existing core members to meet this new challenge of mentoring and training new people. All of us will have to try to dig deep and "step up our games" to continue improving our own standards and setting good examples for others.

Thank all of you for having brought us this far in our collective mission. We look forward to continuing to sweeter and better things, in spite of the challenges that come from this new phase and the growth that lies ahead. We will be growing together in maturity and responsibility as we grow in size of facilities and membership.

The temple for the first time has now taken on a large debt in the form of a $575,800, 15-year mortgage, and while the monthly payments will be slightly less than our current rent at 951 S. Bascom Avenue, we will have additional expenses of insurance, separate living facilities for our pujaris, substantially higher utilities payments, probably some property tax, the cost of carefully and nicely maintaining a first-class facility, and the additional cost of anticipated larger thrice-weekly programs and festivals. We are grateful to Sri Sri Radha-Madanamohana for bestowing upon us this opportunity to increase our service, increase the size of our congregation, increase the quality of our hearing and chanting, and "increase the bliss!"

Your servants,

Jagarini dd and Akruranatha dasa

Read Bhagavad Gita during Brahma Muhurta + CHAD Reminder & Dial-in Info - Gandharvika Mataji

Dear Devotees,

Please accept our most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupad!

In this Kali-yuga,we lead a complex life, mostly devoid of Krishna consciousness, we keep running behind so many things and struggle a lot to acquire them and later continue the struggle more to maintain them. In spite of spending 99.9% of our time in achieving happiness through material means, our heart is full of anxiety, frustration and lamentation.

In this regard, we came across a following story. Once there lived a king, who presented a diamond necklace for his daughter. One day the necklace was lost and the king made an announcement that he will reward the person who finds it. One of the king's minister while passing along a dirty lake, saw something shimmering and when he bent further down, he found that it was the necklace.  Inspite of the fact that the lake was very dirty, the minsiter put his hands inside the filthy water and tried to grab the necklace. But to his disappointment he was not able to get it. A sage was passing by. The sage compassionately inquired him what the problem was. After great hesitation, the minister confided that however hard he tried, he was not able to get the necklace. The sage smiled and replied that he should stop looking into the filthy water and should start looking upwards. The minister looked up and true enough the necklace was dangling on the branch of a tree. He had been trying to capture the mere reflection of the necklace all this time.

Srimad Bhagavatam 1.7.7, gives the solution - "Simply by giving aural reception to this Vedic literature, the feeling for loving devotional service to Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, sprouts up at once to extinguish the fire of lamentation, illusion and fearfulness." In his purport to the same verse, Srila Prabhupad writes  -  "Everyone is full of lamentation at every moment, he is after the mirage of illusory things, and he is always afraid of his supposed enemy. These are the primary symptoms of material disease. And it is definitely suggested herein simply by hearing the message of Srimad-Bhagavatam one gets attachment for the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna, and as soon as this is effected the symptoms of the material diseases disappear."

"Make plans to sit with sincere devotees to hear and discuss the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Simply by doing this on a regular basis, you will feel cleansed and edified. And one who faithfully continues this practice will, in due course of time, see the Lord sitting upon the altar of his purified heart. " - HG Vaisesika Prabhu

Here is an opportunity to give your day a harmonious and auspicious start!

Dial in every morning @5am PDT, and read/listen to Bhagavad-gita in the association of devotees. There is nothing more nectarean than Srila Prabhupad's divine purports.

Conference Access Number:            1-218-895-9646
Conference Passcode:                     1008

Tomorrow is the all-auspicious Ekadashi day, per our CHAD plan, we will be reading Bhagavad Gita verses from 18.1 to 18.38 for the next one month until 15 May 2012.

Let us make a sincere effort to read Bhagavad-Gita every day. This is our only real protection. As HG Vaisesika Prabhu writes "The devotee who hears Krsna's words with a submissive heart immediately feels an ingress of causeless knowledge and detachment.  Krsna is attentively watching us at every second and is ready to guide and shelter us. Therefore, today, and everyday, may we recite the divine slokas in Bhagavad-gita not by rote. Rather, with the urgency of a man or woman trapped in a burning house, let sing them aloud, calling for Krsna's protection."

Srila Prabhuad writes.."...The word ekadashi (literally, "the eleventh day") refers to two days a month: the eleventh day after the new moon and the eleventh day after the full moon.On these days, devotees strive to deepen their attitude of loving service to Krishna by using even more of their time to chant Hare Krishna, read books like Bhagavad-gitä and Srimad-Bhägavatam, and discuss topics of devotional service.
To observe ekadashi, devotees also simplify their diet by fasting from grains and beans...People today follow all sorts of harsh or complicated diets to improve their health or enhance their spirituality, but simply by observing this ekadashi diet twice a month one can easily improve one's health and enrich one's spiritual life. You can easily observe ekadashi to advance in Krishna consciousness, even at home, and this is recommended in Vedic literature...." - Back To Godhead Magazine#16-10,1981

Hare Krishna Dear Devotees,

Testimonials from our sincere Kartik CHAD performers indicate that CHAD has left them with lingering transcendental aftertaste & a desire to chant more. It is very rare to get this taste and we should try all our best to maintain this enthusiasm. Srila Prabhupada mentions that "So, everything begins with faith (Shraddha). For example, the people here have come with a little faith. That faith is like a spark. Now you have to fan it so that it becomes a blazing fire... Just like there is small fire in the charcoal. You fan it, and it will gradually become a big fire. So this Krishna consciousness movement is fanning that spiritual spark to come into full consciousness. Go on fanning like that. That is the rules and regulation, attending this class, hearing this Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita. Twenty-four hours be engaged. That is real business." -Srimad-Bhägavatam 1.15.44 - Los Angeles, December 22, 1973.

With the mercy & blessings of HG Vaisheshika Prabhu blended with your enthusiasm, ISV is determined to keep the CHAD wheels running. In order to assist the business of every CHAD performer to do their bit so that the wheels never stop, CHAD team has come up with the following 3 month plan.  If you are inspired to do some other chapter you may do so. Main goal is to chant one chapter of Bhagavad-Gita every day.  Attached is the 12th chapter of Bhagavad-Gita in CHAD format.

Invitation: ISV Bhakti Shastri - First Convocation Ceremony - Sunday April 8, 2012- From HG Shraddha Mataji

Hare Krsns Dear Devotees,

Please accept my respectful obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

The Bhakti-Sastri degree, originally conceived by ISKCON's founder Srila Prabhupada, is a course where students systematically study key literature in the Gaudiya Vasihnava tradition.

This January, we successfully concluded the first Bhakti Shastri course offered by ISKCON of Silicon Valley under the leadership and guidance of H.H. Hanumat Preshak Swami Maharaja, H.G. Vaisesika Prabhu and H.G. Srivasa Pandita Prabhu.

The goals the course were:
  • To be steadily and firmly fixed in chanting Hare Krishna and devotional service by understanding the siddhanta, the correct philosophical conclusions of the scriptures
  • To improve our preaching and book distribution skills
  • To obtain a Bhakti Shastri certificate and title as per Srila Prabhupada's instruction,
and thus please Srila Prabhupada, who spent so much time and energy to write, print and publish the Bhagavad-gita, Nectar of Devotion, Nectar of Instruction, and Sri Isopanisad.

Assessment included homework and closed book exams. The additional requirements were: good sadhana, brahminical tendencies, voluntary service,  and book distribution.

Please join us at ISKCON of Silicon Valley, 951 South Bascom Avenue, San Jose, CA - 95128, at 5 pm PST, on Sunday April 8, 2012 to honor and congratulate the devotees who toiled hard for the past two years under the shelter of their preceptor H.G. Srivasa Pandita Prabhu. These noble souls will receive their degree certificate from the lotus hands of H.G. Vaisesika Prabhu!

Don't miss this transcendental moment!

Hari Bol.

His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu at ISV for Full week

Dear esteemed ISV Devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

We have fortune association of His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu at ISV for the full week. Absorb yourself in 24 hour bliss made available by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu who added Prema in chanting of  the Holy names for  this age of Kali.

Now a person need not spend next 20 years to understand complex machine code or get a Phd  in order to work on computer. Authentic libraries of functions are created as short cut and quick help so that even common person can use and work on computers.

Similarly Japa or chanting of Holy name is the simplified process of identifying and regaining the lost eternal Love of God, where an aspirant "to go home" need not spend thousands of years and lifetimes of purificatory process. One can start getting  benefit from the moment s/he starts hearing and chanting which is available easy and  can be done anywhere , anytime. Pure Chanting can put one for bigger and longer  Bliss. We can try to increase the World Bliss in very simple way a) by contributing our own rounds and b) expanding number of people chanting the Mahamantra in this world.

The detailed schedule is as follow:

Saturday morning, Apr 07, 7:30 am - 10:30 am: ISV Temple:
Sri Brahma Samhita recitation and discourse on  Srimad Bhagavatam by His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu  followed by Prasadam*.

There is a Rama Navami celebration in Sunnyvale Temple on Saturday. ISV devotees have been invited to perform 30 mins kirtan starting from 12:30 to 1 pm. Few of our leading devotees will be singing there.
Please join us if you have time.

Sunday Feast Program, Apr 08, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm:ISV Temple
Sunday Feast Celebration with Lecture, Kirtan by His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu follwoed by Prasadam.

We look forward to your association at ISV this week.
