Don't wish it. Work it

Vedavit Pr approached an African American gentleman who was so enamoured with reading the Sanskirt from Srila Prabhupada's books that he would repeat flawlessly all the mantras that Vedavit Pr would recite. He took a few books. Little Poojha with her presence was able to stop even the most busiest people running away after shopping. ……… Narahari Dev das

We met this person named David. Although a catholic by birth, he was very open minded towards other religious/spiritual faiths. He got extremely interested in BG after Prashant Pr and I showed him the pictures in BG……………

Vedavit Prabhu taught Hare Krsna Maha Mantra to many people. If a person takes a book without giving laxmi, Vedavit Pr would run to him and teach the Maha Mantra. One must either give the laxmi or chant the Maha Mantra in order to get a book. That was Vedavit Pr's mantra for the day. Haribol. Ys, Ramaswamy.

There is nothing in life than can make anyone happy other than performing the Sankirtana Yajna. Sankirtana is life. "Don't wish it. Work it." ………….. Vaisesika Dasa

I want this Krishna book .... Please......

(From Praveena) :

GNAB1: A chinese mother and a son(probably 7 yrs) approached the table, I was showing her the books and she showed some interest and took one chinese book but she said she didn't have any money and asked her son if he had some money he said he have a quarter and gave it to me. They both took the book and left the table, in few seconds the kid came back and pointing out English KRSNA book he asked me what is this?, I showed the pictures and explained him Krsna's past times from the pictures. He asked me if he can have that book, i asked him to get some donation, he said he had saved few quarters which his mom gave and he gave me 3 quarters. I asked him can you get little more donation from his MOM as that book is little expensive, he went and came back with disappointment but started pleading me with pleasing face holding KRSNA book " Please.. Can I please give you money next sunday when I come, I want this book .. Please.. ". He was not ready to leave that book at any cost, I was so happy to see a CHINESE kid showing so much interest in KRSNA book, finally had to give it for 3 quarters and he was so happy to take it.

GNAB2: I just stopped a person passing by. I asked him where he was from? He said he is from Japan. I gave him a flier and was explaing him about the Bhakti Yoga Classes. He smiled at me and said "Hare Krsna". I was so surprised he then said " Haribol". His pronounciation was nice though he is a Japanese. I asked how he knew about Hare Krsna, he said that he is a vounteer of some organization and does fund raising for their organization and many times he met Iskcon LA devotees while fund raisng. He said Hare Krsna's are very nice. We gave him a Isopanisad book and informed about Satyadeva Prabhu's preaching at Japan. We invited him to come to the temple to meet Satyadeva Prabhu.

One for my sister & One for me

3) One Indian family was passing by our book table and the kid saw the Bhagavad-Gita and he insisted his dad that he just wants that book. Unfortunately they already had the copy of BG hardbound in their house. But the kid was so adamant that his father had to relent to his request and had to purchase the copy of BG hardbound for $10. The kid convinced his dad that the one at home was for his sister and the one now they purchased will be for his personal use :-)………… Bhakta K

Yesterday my realtor held an "open house" to try to sell our home. A couple came by who were vegetarians. They were American musicians, but the husband was a computer genius who had come up from Redondo Beach to work in Silicon Valley. The lady said she was interested in Buddhism, and that she was proud of being an atheist (ouch). They liked our temple room and I showed her the Gaura-Nitai Deities on the altar. When I mentioned Bhagavad Gita she said she has been meaning to read it. I gave her a hardcover Gita and she spontaneously offered a $5 donation akruranathadasa

Srimad Bhagavatam set distribution stories

1) I have met one person, i have requested him to have Bhagavatam, he replied that "i have already had Bhagavad Gita. I am happy with that ". I just asked him to tell some thing about KRISHNA, he didnt say much. I told him that Bhagavatam was spoken about KRISHNA, if you read the glories of the LORD everyday, your faith becomes stronger and then you would follow the instructions given in Bhagavad Gita with pure LOVE... As prabhupada said, you should know about the person whom you should worship very well. i,e Bhagavatam. He was happy and took a small Set.

2) I have met another person, he said that he knows the importance of Bhagavatam, BUT he wanted later. As prabhupada said, LATER never comes since there is no guarantee for next second. I have told him that this is the one time investment for your LIFE, this transcendental knowledge would save your future generations as well...BUT he was reluctant at that moment. But he came to me after 3 days, requested a BIG set. That was the power of Paramatma feature !

3) I have met one mataji, i knew her very well. I have asked her "How do you feel if KRISHNA comes to your home ?" Immediately she replied that would be BEST & LAST moment in my LIFE. I have told her that "I thought the same and taken your name for Bhagavatam SET" :-) And Krishna comes to your home in text form. she could not say NO and took a small set.

4) I have met another mataji, she is not regular, but spoken to her few times ..i have requested her to have bhagavatam, she said NO, I cant keep it at my home since there was no space. This was bit funny, i told her that "Since you are not providing room for KRISHNA at your home. That indicates you are not providing space for KRISHNA in your heart too....." . She was confused for a while.... As prabhupada said, You take KC first, then Rules and Regulations comes automatically...If you think that you have to follow Rules and Regulations before you accept KC, that never happens.. she also took one small set.

5) I have met one more person, he had some budget issues..i have told him that budget is a common problem for everyone and even for US gov too... But we still satisfy our body needs with out bothering about mind, so we should have medicine for mind regularly, i.e Bhagavatam. Once your mind is engaged in the service of Supreme Lord, all budget problems disappear at once .... he was laughed for some time....:-) And took one small set...

6) I have approached one devotee, as soon as he saw me, he said that i have already got all books of prabhupada.. i just kept silent for few sec...and then replied: Very nice to hear that you have got everything ..But others NOT. I would request to donate some Lakshmi for this great cause... he took some time and donated $151. His brother was looked at me, before i ask him, he replied that we both are from same family. Again i was silent for few secs..Then i replied to him that You both are from same family but each of you have different spiritual accounts.. Your brother's donation never get credited into your spiritual account .... you have to increase your spiritual account too...this surely help you from great danger .... I have requested him to "HELP US BY HELPING YOUR SELF " he smiled at me and pledged $108.

Srila Prabhupad -- Number one Book distributor

Not only cleaning clothes Where ever I go, I try and bring some books for me to place in a library, or a Moral, Welfare, Recreation Center. On one mission we had to pick someone up at another base and when we picked him up he reminded me, I still had laundry from my last time there. So off we went, I walked in and gave my ticket and he found my bag and had this huge grin. Sir, does this bag belong to you?, Yes, it does. He then asked me to come into the back with him. I was a little worried, did I leave a thumb drive in my clothes or some money, what could it be? As I went in the back everyone stopped and looked at me. I asked the man, what is this about? Another man smiled and said Hare Krsna, very surpised I said Hare Krsna back. He said, Sir, we have all wonder who would be wearing this saffron cloth and also a US Army uniform. To our surprise it is you. They went on to tell me they know of our Krsna Balarama Temple, and they know of the Maha Mantra. I asked how they knew I was in ISKCON, he laughed and said well, the shirt with Bhativedanta Swami on it let us know. Laughing, I then explained to them that yes, I am a devotee and trying to spread this ancient message to everyone I met in Iraq. I asked them if they ever read Srila Prabhupada's books, and some have, others haven't. I asked someone to come with me and came back with a case of books, some incense and some other maha goodies. Everyone in the laundry center stood in line to take a book! Two gentleman asked me to take a photo of them and we exchanged email address and I went on my way. On the road I thought, I deal with so much austerity here, no food, extreme heat, no association but experiences like that make it worth the hardships. Srila Prabhupada will always be the number one book distributor in ISKCON and we can all simply pray to assist him in some manner……………………. Partha-sarathi dasa

I chant your name 2000 times

This was the first time to distribute books at Airport, we just had few mins. I have met a nice gentleman, and introduced my self. As a reply he said that his name is "KRISHNA" . I was extremely happy to hear, then i immediately replied that " I chant your name more than 2000 times every day and some times more than that. I think of your name in most of the day..finally my day begins and ends with your name . Not only me, thousands of people chant your name every day in all over the world..." He was totally surprised ......:-) He had asked me very curiously ..why do you chant my name ?? I have told him that i am from ISKCON and we chant HARE KRISHNA maha mantra every day...he was very happy ..and i said " Since your name also KRISHNA, you should have KRISHNA Words i.e Bhagavad Gita with you", He could not say NO. Took GITA happily and donated $2.

Jaganath Rath Yatra celebration

The best Yoga

I met a lady who strictly follows the Dhyana Yoga , had some good discussion with her. Due to lack of right knowledge, she believes Dhyana Yoga is the highest platform to attain perfection in human birth. I have told her few solkas from 12th Chapter Bhakti Yoga where KRISHNA clearly said that Bhakti Yoga is highest platform and simple process to reach KRISHNA. I have also shared couple of solkas from GITA. She was not fully convinced since she has been in dhyana yoga for long time :-) I gave one example : If one person declares 4 Statements. But he finally gives conclusion of all his 4 statements. i have asked her, which one you would follow ? she said conclusion statement. Then i saidr, KRISHNA talked about all YOGAs in GITA, but he finally concludes that Bhakti Yoga is the highest platform, Thus we ISKCON follows the highest YOGA . i told her that Intelligent person never takes Dhyana yoga by ignoring the conclusion of all Yogas given by KRISHNA.I believe you are intelligent ......... I gave our temple address, She came to our sunday Program, she was very much inspired by Vaisesika Pr's lecture, finally she said ...THIS IS PERFECT KNOWLEDGE..

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, The Great Acharya, whose disappearance day we observed on Sunday (July 11th) at the ISV temple, has said:
“The showing of compassion to all fallen souls by distributing Krsna nama is the essence of all religious principles”

For past 7 weeks devotees went for book distribution door to door & harinam & Jaganatha Rath yatra pulled by kids
In all 50 Kids took part in Sankirtana &distributed 1001 books
The MotelGita team dispatched thousands of Bhagavad Gitas for placement in motels all over the US and distributed Gitas through a hotel convention in Chicago. Chinese Gitas were shipped to Virginia, English Gitas were shipped by BBT-Mumbai for local distribution and other books were either shipped or carried by ISV devotees to different places in India for distribution there. Book distribution led by ISV devotees in distant places (beyond the Bay Area) occurred in Boise, Idaho, Sacramento, CA, Singapore and several cities in India. Books were also distributed books via the smart box placed at various establishments in the Bay Area.
Here’s a summary of the final results.
In all,
· 556 Devotees participated in book distribution, a new record for ISV

Prabhupads mercy on Garbage Collector

I happened to stop a person who looked like a mexican. He didn't react very positively in the beginning but after showing the book and talking a little bit about it he started growing in interest. He suddenly started telling me about Krsna and Arjuna and their conversation on the battlefield. I was very surprised to hear this from him. I thought he knew about this earlier. He later revealed that he used to do garbage cleaning on roads. He once found a discarded book on the road and took it home. He read it and liked it (it is Prabhupada's book) and he cleaned it up, bound it and preserved it. He liked the philosophy very much and in his terms : "this philosophy is more profound compared to religions like christianity". He was looking for more books like that and he could not find any so far until he met us. He was very happy to see all the books in front of him. He was happy to get hold of plenty of books (7 of them). Even though he didn't carry much laxmi, he gave around $20. It was a good realization for me that the book distribution can help souls like these searching after Krsna. He felt really happy. He looked like reading all of them at once there :-) ………………….. Baby with Good qualities

1) I have met lady who is carrying, i gave Bhagavad Gita book, she was reluctant to have the book, and she said that "I do not have time to read the book and more over i am carrying baby...". I have told her about Prahlada Maharaj, how he was received Bhagavatam from Narada Muni. I have asked her : Do you want a baby ? Or Do you want baby with good devotional qualities ? She replied that she need a baby with good qualities.. i asked her, How can you expect a baby with good spiritual qualities with out reading these scriptures ? You may give good education to your baby, NOT good qualities.. I have requested her to keep GITA and read every day , your baby would surely become a great devotee of KRISHNA. She took GITA and immediately came to the temple with us by Krishna's grace………………..

Haribol for men Radhabol for women

Dear devotees,

Pamho. agtSP.

I got a donation of $201 from one of my colleagues on the special occasion of Bhakti Vinoda Thakur MSF.

If you have time you can go through the small story behind the donation. My colleague's name is Nishanth I knew him from the past 8months (we both are working on the same project and used to share the work load equally(50% - 50%), he is an indian but kind of ATHEIST, never used to believe in the existence of Supreme personality of Godhead, KRSNA.

We used to have many arguments in the office many times but couldn't convince so thought the best way is to give prasadam, so I used to give him some home made sweet prasadam almost every week. Slowly he became one of my close friends, but with the POWER OF PRASADAM, he started believing on KRSNA and appreciate our activities. He donated a small amount for Gita Jayanti too last year.

This year his contribution improved, he used to help me out by taking out to Fedex Kinkos, Walmarts, Michaels, Indian stores for temple needs when ever required (Note: I still don't know Car Driving...so dependent on others) so indirectly he was participating in Lord Caitanya's sankirtan movement and after every service he used to say " I have done so many sins..let me do some good work by helping you in some way so that your KRSNA will excuse me"

Interesting thing is he used ask me so many details..like "How do you greet devotees?" I said either "hare Krsna" or "Haribol"..from that moment he started greeting me "RADHA BOL" I asked what is Radha bol?..,he said "Haribol is for men and RADHABOL should be for women ..

If any new task comes in the project, he started taking my workload partially and used to say " If you have some time you will use it for KRSNA" so its better if you have time..i was so surprised to see his thinking and transformation..its all effect of KRSNA PRASADAM. He came to temple once and liked it a lot.

Couple of weeks back finally he had gone back to India for GOOD. Last week one of his friends gave me a GIFT saying while leaving back to India he asked them to give this to me...I opened it with full eagerness and inside was "DONATION OF $201 TOWARDS ISKCON". I sent a Thanks mail and he replied saying "Krishnarpanamastu". Now I got a new partner...at my work ..just started giving him "KRSNA PRASADAM", THE ONE AND THE MOST EFFICIENT WEAPON...

I would like to give this donation towards the BHAKTI VINODA THAKUR's MSF and seek his mercy towards fallen souls like me and my friend.

Bhakti Vinoda Thakur MSF ki Jaya!

He said ..i work for Yahoo. then i have asked : which location ? he replied Sunnyvale .. again i asked which building ? he said Building B. Again i have asked which floor ? he replied 2nd floor.. But I am more flexible

Towards the end of our kirtan, there was a nice looking young middle-eastern couple, they were new to the US. The lady got hooked on to the international vegetarian cookbook. She said she was trying to be a vegetarian (she eats seafood and has stopped everything else) and was glad to find something international. Then as I got them talking, they wanted to know what religion we were, and if we had a book that summarized the philosophy. I showed them the Bhagavad Gita, and then the picture on changing bodies. The man said, "oh, we dont believe in reincarnation. We are muslim!". That instant, I felt even more determined for them to take the books. Luckily his wife said, "Oh dont worry about him, I am more flexible!" Then they stayed for a while, debating to take the book on comparison of vedic philosphy with other western philosophies (SP discussions on that), or the Bhagavad Gita. In the end they ended up taking both. The guy said to his wife, "do you think we will read this" she said, "even keeping this book (Bhagavad Gita) in the house is good isnt it?" It was most stunning to see such positive reception, it was as if Radharani was personally showering some mercy on me by allowing me to become an instrument to share these books with the pious lady……….

But what about Next Life ??

) I have stopped a lady who is teacher and who is bit interested in spirituality. She had asked me many questions, i was very happy to meet such a soul at heavily crowded Walmart. I have spent more than 30 mins with her. Conversation as follows : " Good to know that you are a teacher and very respectable profession in the society. What subject you teach for students ? She replied , Maths. Ah, Maths is a good subject and even i love that subject, and this knowledge may bring very lavish life for a student in future and it may help students to get settled well. Moreover this knowledge help them HOW TO SURVIVE IN THIS WORLD, BUT DOES THIS KNOWLEDGE HELP THEM OUT TO GET RID OF BIRTH, OLD AGE, DISEASES AND DEATH ?? She said NO. I have told her that you are giving knowledge to students to live very comfortably in this life, BUT NEXT LIFE ? They have to go through the pains.. ARE YOU REALLY GIVING RIGHT KNOWLEDGE WHICH HELP THEM IN NEXT LIFE TOO ? She said NO. Then i have presented BHAGAVAD GITA and told her that GITA is the solution for the problems of all human kind. This is SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE and surely help them to get out of birth & death problems. I have showed few verses from GITA. Thus i have requested her to take GITA and get the knowledge from this book, and teach this spiritual knowledge to your students along with Material Knowledge, that really help/make them happy in this life and next life too.. She was very impressed ,took GITA very happily and gave $6 donation & email id too.. Ys Bharath

Good days ahead

) I stopped one American lady who happened to be a believer of Jesus christ and a true (okay, so-called) follower of Christianity. I didn't know this and directly presented her a Bhagavad-Gita. She immediately told she was a christian but I felt she was very open minded. I insisted her that the book is not about religion but about the science of soul. She seemed to know a little bit about Indian philosophy and asked about a book which had the cover page of Durga (she told a Goddess with many hands etc etc). I told her Durga is under the supervision of Krishna and if she reads Bhagavad-Gita then she doesn't need to read about various sub-categories. I showed her various pictures inside Bhagavad-Gita and also the classical picture which involves soul traversing through childhood body to old body. I explained her that and immediately she told she doesn't believe in reincarnation. I wanted her not to lose faith so I explained her that we had a different body in our childhood and a completely different body now but we remain the same person, so this concept is being called reincarnation. She got convinced about that. She was asking about various yoga practices that she was aware of (like bodily postures, going inside a steamy room and voluntarily sweating etc etc). I told her that all these yoga work on the body but Bhagavad-Gita is the topmost yoga which works on soul. Even though she kept saying that her husband might chastise her for taking the book, the inquisitiveness in her won over her fear and she finally decided to take the Bhagavad-Gita. I felt really happy. Good days ahead of her…………..

One Indian family crossed by the book table but did not show interest in taking any book. A while later, their daughter pulled them to the table. Reason : She saw our Jagannath namkeen prasadam and told her parents that she wants to buy that :-) Her dad came and asked us how much is that namkeen (prasadam) packet. We took that oppurtunity and sold them a book along with the prasadam packet.

MSF harinam sankirtan videos

Thou shall eat only Leaf,Flower,Fruit & Water

: I was distributing "Christian Vegetarian" pamphlets (some Christians gave me in Berkeley a couple years ago) to people who said they did not like our books because we are not Christians, and found that this was a good way of peacefully engaging people. When my pamphlets recently ran out, I was thinking I would like to have more of them. I was even telling Vaish last week that maybe I would go to their website (www.christianveg.org) and order a few hundred at $.12 apiece.
On Saturday in Santa Cruz, a Christian veg. hippie named "Star" offered me one of the same pamphlets, and I told him how I like to pass them out and was even thinking of buying some. He gave me all he had, for free, about 100 of them.
If anyone likes I can provide some. They can be used sparingly, just for those who clearly are not interested in taking a book and want to make a point that as Christians they do not like what we are doing. I find it quickly defuses the situation if we say, "We do have a Christian pamphlet, written by Christians, which we also pass out to those who are interested. Here, please take one." They see it really is a Christian pamphlet and go away calm and satisfied. The pamphlet argues strongly in favor of vegetarianism based on Christian scriptures and priciples, and as far as I can tell is in line with Prabhupada's preaching to Christians (i.e., "Don't stop being Christians, but to be better Christians become vegetarians.")

Book Table at my Office !!!

I was distributing books to some colleagues now and then but suddenly one fine day this thought of arranging book rack in my cubicle crossed over my mind. I thought I could grab the attention of passers by so that they can come and talk about the books and take a book or two. This certainly DID work and lot of people were curious when they saw this book rack and came by and asked about what's this about. Many of them took the books as well. Even though I don't expect to do lot of mass book distribution here, my aim is to impress on every one that here is some thing they can look forward to always. So even if some one becomes genuinely interested after some time it will be great.

Contagious Enthusiasm of book distribution

1) Our new ISV devotee Vijay prabhu came for the second time to book distribution. In my view, we might have just unearthed a wonderful sankirtan devotee. He was just fabulous. His energy, enthusiasm and innocence makes a delightful package. He distributed books non-stop even without taking a lunch break. He inspired every one of us. He could not come on sunday because he is going to attend an interview in NY. I hope Madan-mohan ji keeps him here at ISV.

…………. Bhakta K

2. Kameswari M was telling that there were five kids in their team and they were given chances one after the other like 1, 2, 3,4 & 5 and she said that they were fighting for their turn and didn't want to comeback from book distribution. They have been forcibly brought back by the elders thinking that they might miss Damodaraskam :-)………. Praveena

: Hariguru Pr's Mother was inspired everyone by distributing more than 40 books, She has stopped most of the customers of walmart. I have never seen such a great enthu and eager to distribute Prabhupada books by elder Mataji. This was really great effort by Mataji. Her humble approach got attracted many souls at walmart. Hats off to Harigiru Pr's Mother.......!!!

Seriously Praying for Mercy

1.) Sunday turned out to be an eye-opener for me. I chanted all my rounds very seriously praying for the health of my Guru Maharaja and also requesting the Lordships to use me as an instrument when we go out for Book Distribution. For more than one hour Hariharan Prabhu and I kept on knocking empty doors or disgruntled house owners for disturbing their afternoon sleep. We couldn't even distribute one single book and hence we decided to change venue. I went to join Vipul Pr at New India Bazaar and Prabhu went to join Vedavit Pr at another Door2Door venue. At the end of the day I could understand that we also need Krsna's mercy in addition to our endeavour to become successful in our spiritual life. A sound realisation in time especially with Damodar-Lila to happen soon.

2.) On Saturday Hariharan Pr and I met a person who said that he was an atheist, wanted to read the Bhagavad Gita but didn't have any money to pay for it. He said that he would pay for it later! I was a little hesitant but Hariharan Prabhu instantly gave him the Bhagavad Gita and asked him to read. After this person closed the door I asked Hariharan Pr his reasoning and he said "Atheists are generally very honest to their word. They believe that they reap the results of what they do and generally try to do the right thing!" It was something new I learnt on Book Distribution. True to Prabhu's words this person gave $10.00 for a Hard Bhagavad Gita when we returned to his house today!

Austerity of speech consists in speaking words that are truthful, pleasing, beneficial, and not agitating to others, and also in regularly reciting Vedic literature. - Bhagavad-Gita 17.15
