To: IskconSV_General@yahoogroups.com

Dear highly esteemed devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Tomorrow, there there be a solar eclipse from 5:16pm to 7:40pm in San Jose.

During this period, sastra recommends that one not eat, drink or perform puja as one is in a contaminated state because of the eclipse.

Therefore, tomorrow at ISV, all pujas, cooking and offering of bhoga will be completed before 5:16pm, and from that time, up until 7:40pm, we will observe fasting and simply hear and chant.

After 7:40pm we will serve prasadam and puja will resume at that time, after the pujaris have purified themselves.

Parents should make sure that their children not look at the eclipse as doing so can easily damage one's eyes. (Actually, this applies to everyone, not just children.)

Tomorrow, everyone can remember Krsna's pastimes of meeting the residents of Vrndavana at the holy place of Kuruksetra after they all had gone there during a solar eclipse.

Please let me know if you have any questions: Vaisesika.dasa@gmail.com

With gratitude,

Your servant,

Vaisesika Dasa

SENCO program at ISV -Mail from H G Srivasa Pandit Prabhu

Dear devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

On behalf of His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu (Temple President of ISV) and other senior devotees, we are pleased to announce a comprehensive devotee care or SENCO program.  In a nutshell, a SENCO is a senior peer who is willing to assist others in making spiritual progress by listening and channelizing their needs, interests and concerns.

We will have short talk/presentation about the program during Wednesday Night Gita class on 9-May-2012 and a repeat of the presentation during the Sunday Feast Lecture on 13-May-2012 for more questions and/or comments.

Please take few minutes to read the FAQs below.

1.       What is the SENCO program (Devotee Care program)?

The SENCO program is an initiative at ISV to encourage a group of senior devotees who can act as a friend and a trusted advisor to help the members of congregation with regards to their spiritual progress.  They are not authority figures, but Senior Contacts who will listen to your ideas, requirements and concerns.  A SENCO can have any number of devotees as his or her bandwidth allows, but the recommended maximum is 10

2.       How will this program help me and what can I expect from it?

The participation in this program is voluntary.  Often the greatest stumbling blocks in spiritual life are granite-like doubts within our hearts. SENCO program provides that outlet to clarify those doubts. A SENCO is a trusted friend who can empathetically listen to you and help you channel your service aspirations and other ideas you might have.  Your exchanges with your SENCO will be completely confidential.

While SENCOs cannot solve every problem you might have, they can help you to seek a solution.

3.       Who is eligible to participate and how can I sign up?

This program is open for those who are new in Krishna Consciousness or those who have been practicing for some time. You can complete the attached application form  and email it to Srivasa Pandit Das (srivasa.pandita@gmail.com). Alternatively, you can print the form out and give the hard copy to Srivasa Pandit Das or Shraddha Mataji when you come to the temple.

We are starting with a limited number of devotees and eventually hope to serve the entire ISV community.

4.       What is the communication channel between SENCO and his/her group?

The connection can be via email, phone or in person.  It is flexible and is mutually agreed upon by the SENCO and his/her group.

Thank you for your time and interest!

Your servant,
Srivasa Pandit Das
