Dear Parents

Vedic Academy is excited to announce GITA CHAMPIONS - The annual children's contests based on the Bhagavad Gita. The Bhagavad Gita is universally acknowledged as one of the world's literary and spiritual masterpieces. We at, Vedic Academy, believe that spiritual education culminates in character and integrity and therefore would like to extend an opportunity to all the children in Bay Area to read, understand and apply the teachings of Bhagavad Gita in their lives and become powerful agents of change in this world. Special Harinama Party tomorrow in San Francisco! (Friday, November 29th)

http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends

We extend a warm invitation to all of you to join us for a special Harinama party at San Francisco tomorrow (Friday, November 29th 2013). This is an annual event organized by ISV and we will be elated if we can have you and your family participate in this.

Bring your children dressed up as little Krishna, Rama, etc. Let us all be the instruments of Lord Caitanya by participating in this rare opportunity of publicly chanting the Holy Names to not only benefit ourselves but also benefit hundreds of people in downtown San Francisco. The Vedic scriptures say that even if a person hears and chants the holy name once, will be devoid of all sinful reactions and can make his life auspicious.

       HARINAM SANKIRTANA

THE HARINAMA SANKIRTANA PARTY OF THE YEAR!

When: Friday, November 29th @ 10.59 am - 3.00 pm (Please come as early as possible)

Where: Market and Powell in downtown San Francisco

(Bay Area Rapid Transit) BART stops at Market and Powell. Board a BART train at the Fremont or Millbrae Bart stations. Since parking is difficult, we recommend taking BART.

Join us to chant the holy names of Krsna and dance in ecstasy! Let us give relief to the hundreds of thousands of weary shoppers who are obligated to fight the holiday crowds in search of discounts and "perfect gifts".

There will be book and prasadam distribution. You will go back home with lots of fun, smiles and miracles! Only by performing Yajna for Visnu can one experience real happiness. The Yajna for Kali-yuga is the congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord. When this Yajna is taken into the public, it's value increases thousands of times because the Lord is especially pleased when the devotees benedict others by chanting His holy names.

Be a part of this historic event!

Hare Krishna

Team ISV

Special Thanksgiving Seminars at ISV & Join Us To Express Gratitude To Our Supreme Father!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

Everyone around the USA and Canada are looking forward to Thanksgiving to express their gratitude for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well. At the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV), we look forward for this day to express our heartfelt gratitude to our Supreme Father, Lord Sri Krishna for His unlimited blessings upon all of us and all the predecessor Acharyas for their compassion and valuable contribution to humanity.

The search for love in this world is often unsuccessful because of ignorance about where to look for perfect love. As a result, many people today experience heartache. we can cure bodily pains by applying an ointment or some other medicine, and we can somewhat cure mental suffering. But a heartache, that is when a heart is broken because of a broken relationship, is difficult to cure. If a person can truly feel the love of God in his or her life and then respond to it joyously, as in a prayer and so on, then there is a communication circle that is so divine and so absolutely empowering that it is amazing. It is empowering, especially if we practice this exchange with God, the reservoir of all love. Ancient traditions tell us that the real point is to somehow use our human freedom to embark on the journey that will bring us to the oceanic depths of the Lord´s love. We, at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley, really believe that this journey is something we should openly talk about, and it is something that we should not be shy about as the true essence of spiritual life is the overwhelming presence of the Lord. Our classes at ISV are based on practical and relevant modern day topics and everybody can benefit just by sincere aural reception of these messages. Join us for a special three part seminar on the "Analysis of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's teachings to Srila Sanatana Goswami" this week.

With great happiness in our hearts, we welcome you and your family to join us this week to offer our heartfelt gratitude to the Supreme Lord and our spiritual teachers for the unlimited blessings that has been bestowed upon us. We have organized a special Harinaam Sankirtan at Downtown San Francisco on Friday, September 29th, the details of which will follow shortly. We extend a warm welcome to all of you to  also join us for the grand Thanksgiving Harinaam this year. We look forward to serving you at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley!

Support 'Give the Gita' Campaign & Unveil the Mystery Tile Wall at ISV!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

'Give the Gita' is an annual campaign organized by the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV). ISV has been engaged in distributing and sharing the Bhagavad Gita's to everyone in and outside of Bay Area for several years. "Give the Gita' is a huge annual campaign geared towards distributing a targeted goal of Gitas to commemorate the Gita Jayanthi Festival in December. The campaign spans for 3 months, usually from October – December every year, where the volunteers at ISV work towards distributing  the Gitas at various venues and through different channels both within and outside of Bay Area. In the past, the Gitas have been placed at motels, chapels, prison houses, hospitals and Corporates. The volunteers also go door to door to meet people and share the Gitas apart from distributing them at local festivals, events etc.

The aim of this campaign is to spread the message of love and peace through the wisdom of Gita. The Bhagavad Gita advocates love at its purest form. The fulfillment that we are all seeking is found in the sharing of this love. Gita reveals the message of peace, both individually and collectively. The teachings of Bhagavad Gita, when applied, will awaken our intrinsic love and divine qualities and will enable us to not only find the pleasure we have been seeking but also become powerful agents of change in the world.

The target set for last year's 'Give the Gita' campaign themed as "MSF of Krsna's Most Dear Servant" was to distribute 16,108 books of Bhagavad Gita in two months. Our energetic volunteers worked around the clock and surpassed the target by distributing more than 17,500 Gitas.  Many people who received the Gita responded with messages of gratitude for it has been a life changing experience for many. The campaign this year is named, "MSF of Miracle in Latham Street' geared towards the goal of distributing atleast 19,065 Bhagavad Gita's. The Gitas were distributed at the hospitals, chapels, motels and senior care centers. We are very grateful to all our sponsors for their generous donations which has benefited so many people.

Are you inspired to help in this campaign? There are many ways you can do so.

Join our energetic team of volunteers for engaging in the distribution of the Gitas during the weekends. It is an exciting and fun filled activity that you would cherish!

  • Support the campaign by sponsoring the Gitas. We place Gitas for free at the chapels, hospitals, prison houses and the motels and we always look for sponsors to support us for this cause. Earn a tile and unveil the 'Mystery Tile Wall' by sponsoring a case (16 books) of Bhagavad Gita. Each book that you sponsor will be distributed on your/your loved one's names with a sticker labeled on the book. Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that one who tries to sincerely present the message of Bhagavad Gita to others will advance in devotional activities and reach the pure devotional state of life.
  • Do it Yourself! ISV's motto is to encourage everyone to do a little for tiny drops of water makes the ocean. If you are inspired, please take the case of Gitas from us and share it with your friends, family and colleagues. By doing so, you are planting the seed of wisdom in their hearts.
  • Spread the Word! Spreading the awareness of Gita in itself is an auspicious activity. There are many sincere seekers and lovers of Bhagavad Gita out there and they may benefit by your good will.

If you would like to sponsor the Gitas and/or would like to volunteer for this campaign, please contact Sri Krsna Purushottam Das (408 623 5341)/ Malini (408 515 5292). We look forward for your continued support.

Thank you!

With Gratitude
Team ISV

Special Bhisma Panchaka Classes & Events at ISV - Make Your Life Glorious in the Last Five Days of Kartika!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

We have been observing the glorious month of Kartika, the most auspicious of all months with great care and devotion at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) the last several days. Today marks the beginning of Bhisma Panchaka, the last five days of Kartika. Grandfather Bhisma fasted for these five days, preparing to give up his life. In the Hari BhaktiVilasa, it is said that if one is capable, one should observe fasting from certain foodstuffs on the Bhishma-panchaka for the pleasure of the Lord. This is optional. "The fast should begin by remembering Bhismadeva on the Ekadasi day and should end on Purnima [the full moon]. The Padma Purana say that one pleases the Lord and makes spiritual advancement by such austerities.

Please take advantage of these auspicious days of the Bhisma Panchaka and make great spiritual advancement by joining us for the classes and events at ISV this week! We are organizing a special Harinaam Sankirtan and a Kirtan night this week for the benefit of all. We request you to join us for these wonderful activities and make your life all auspicious.

HUMILITY - THE FOUNDATION OF BHAKTI

SPECIAL EKADASI DAMODAR ARATI

When we see a high raised building in downtown, we think and appreciate its magnificence but have we ever pondered on what make its stand strong? There is hardly anyone who would acknowledge the foundation of the building that makes it stand strong and sturdy. Let's discuss what makes the foundation of our spiritual lives. Join us for a wonderful session on humility in spiritual life. Also, today is the auspicious day of Ekadasi in the month of Kartika. We will be performing a special Damodar Arati along with the singing of Damodarastakam.

Speaker: H.G. Govinda Caran Das

Venue: ISKCON of Silicon Valley

1965 Latham Street Mountain View CA 94040

Time: 6.00 – 8.00pm

Discourse will be followed by Sandhya Arati, Damodarastakam and Prasadam

Friday, November 15 2013

SPECIAL HARINAAM SANKIRTAN FOR KARTIKA AND                                                                          DAMODARASTAKAM

We would like to extend a warm invitation to all of you to join us for a special Harinaam Sankirtan along with the singing of Damodarastakam in Palo Alto this week. Harinaam Sankirtan was inaugurated by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to freely distribute the divine mercy of the Lord to all the human beings who can elevate their consciousness just by hearing and chanting the Holy Names of Lord Krsna. Congregational chanting of the Lord's Holy Names on the streets is an ancient practice of over 500 years and everyone who participates in this glorious activity immensely pleases Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The more the devotees, the better it will be. Your participation any way will please the Lord as this was the desire of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to spread his name in every town and village. This timeless sound vibration, enacted from the spiritual platform, purifies the heart of anyone who hears it, gradually enabling them to understand the transcendental nature of the Supreme Lord – the source of our very existence, and experience spiritual bliss by being directly in contact with the 'reservoir of pleasure', Lord Sri Krishna. What a glorious and rare opportunity to receive the blessings of Lord Krishna by participating in the Harinaam Sankirtan during Bhisma Panchaka in the month of Kartika!

When: Friday, November 15th @ 6.59pm (Please come as early as possible)

Where: Palo Alto, University Avenue

(The cross street will be either Emerson or Bryant, depending on the best facility available. So if you don't see devotees at University and Emerson, go east toward Bryant and look there!)

In one of the purports in Bhagavad Gita, Srila Prabhupada says, "As stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the incarnation in the Age of Kali is Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who spread the worship of Krsna by the Sankirtana movement (congregational chanting of the holy names) and spread Krsna consciousness throughout India. He predicted that this culture of Sankirtana would be broadcast all over the world, from town to town and village to village. Lord Caitanya as the incarnation of Krsna, the Personality of Godhead, is described secretly but not directly in the confidential parts of the revealed scriptures, such as the Upanisads, Mahabharata, Bhagavatam, etc. The devotees of Lord Krsna are much attracted by the Sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya. This avatara of the Lord does not kill the miscreants, but delivers them by His causeless mercy." (BG 4.8 Purport)

Today is Gopastami, the day Sri Krishna became a cowherd boy and also the day that Srimati Radharani dresses as a Gopa. On Gopashtami day, Nanda Maharaja performed a ceremony for the cows and Krishna (and His friends) in Vrindavan, as He reached the pauganda age. This was the day Nanda Maharaja sent his children Krishna and Balarama to herd the cows for the first time. It was a celebration meant only for men and boys. As Srimati Radharani and Her friends wanted to enjoy the fun, and because of Her resemblance to Subala-sakha, She put on his dhoti and garments and joined Krishna. The other gopis joined in too.

This is the only other day, besides Radhastami, that you can see Her Lotus Feet. We extend a warm invitation to all of you to come to ISV today and take the rare and special darshan of Srimati Radharani dressed as a Gopa. There will be a discourse followed by Sandhya Arati, Damodar Arati and Prasadam. Please do not miss this wonderful opportunity!

Auspicious Disappearance Day Festival of Srila Prabhupada and Classes at ISV this Week!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

After the wonderful Diwali & Govardhan Puja festivities at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV), we are looking forward to honor and celebrate the holy disappearance day of our dear Srila Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society for Krsna Consciousness (ISKCON) tomorrow. This is one of the most important days in our lives where we honor and remember the great spiritual preceptor in today's world, Srila Prabhupada, for his noble mission of bringing the Bhakti movement all the way to the West single-handedly and teaching the art of love and devotion to everyone irrespective of caste, creed or gender.

Many of us have heard the call of the soul, sometimes whispering softly to us and at other times crying loudly. Those who integrate its requests witness amazing changes in their lives. Their eyes start to see things they never saw before. Their ears hear about ideas that change their own hearts and the hearts of the people around them. If we listen very carefully, however, we will hear the calling of the soul almost every day. Srila Prabhupada has changed the lives of many people drastically by helping them understand the reality of their existence and the real goal of life through his powerful writings, lectures and loving dealings. We would like to extend a warm invitation to all of you to join us for the remembrance festival of Srila Prabhupada at ISV tomorrow (Nov 6th). We request you to take advantage of the wonderful discourses and programs happening at ISV every week and by Lord Krishna's mercy, may your lives become auspicious and filled with devotion for Sri Sri Radha Madanmohan.
