Special Evening Program Today at ISV for Kartik & Gita Chapter A Day (CHAD)

                          http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends

Hope this meets you well.

Today is the auspicious beginning of the month of Kartik also known as the 'Damodar Maas'. The result of any spiritual activity performed in this month will yield glorious results and therefore we often find devotees performing special austerities and visiting holy places like Sri Vrindavan Dham, Sridham Mayapur etc. during this time. For those of us who are not able to travel to these holy places,we have the good fortune of celebrating Kartik at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) in the association of devotees. Devotees eagerly look forward to the Kartik month every year in order to enrich their spiritual experience by rendering devotional service with extra focus, sincerity and devotion. In order to enrich your spiritual bliss, we at the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) are hosting a variety of programs and events during this month. We request you to please take advantage of these activities and perfect your Krsna Consciousness. The details are listed below.

With great happiness in our hearts, we extend a warm welcome to you all to join us today at ISV for a special evening on the fist day of the most auspicious month of Kartik to offer our love and devotion by singing the Damodarastakam prayers, hearing a beautiful discourse on the pastimes of Lord Damodar and offering ghee lamps to Their Lordships.

GITA CHAPTER A DAY (CHAD)

Chapter A Day (CHAD), initiated by the ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV), is a worldwide alliance of devotees who chant atleast one chapter of Bhagavad Gita As It Is everyday. We have been having this program for many years now and several devotees from various parts of the world have been immensely benefited by chanting one chapter of Bhagavad Gita a day. In order to make it more interactive, ISV also hosts a conference call every Monday - Friday from 12.30 - 12.45 pm for devotees to dial in and recite the Bhagavad Gita together.

Behavioral scientists and professors at Harvard Business School researched, "People engage in many disciplines for reasons ranging from reducing their anxiety to boosting their confidence and alleviating their grief. The disciples may not have a definite intention of what he may desire to obtain, but it is still surprising how everyday disciplines make a lot of sense and are surprisingly effective." (Francesca Gino and Michael I. Norton)

If this holds true for materialistic disciplines, why not make a spiritual discipline to recite a chapter of Bhagavad-gita every day and become true disciples by getting the real knowledge of spirit? Kartik is here & we all know that the Vratas (disciplines) that are taken in the month of Kartik are multiplied hundreds of times and their benefit remains with the practitioner for hundreds of lifetimes. Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita that one who reads this, worships him with ones intellect. Isn't this perfect for the modern age?

How to make a CHAD displine?

1.Make a vow to chant the 4th chapter of Bhagavad-gita As It Is everyday until Nov 17 2013. You may also choose to recite any other chapter you may prefer.Chant all the Sanskrit shlokas; or all the English translations; or both the Sanskrit and English. For added purification read one purport also. Srila Prabhupad's purpose are his transcendental ecstasies and they serve as a torch light and guide on our way back to Godhead.

2.Email recite.chad@gmail.com to enroll & receive the 4th chapter in CHAD format. Print it and carry it with you where you go.(Waiting in queue at the bank or app takes longtime to load? Chant your chapter!)

4.Report your performance and receive a transcendental gift at the end of Kartik.

Here is an opportunity to make your day harmonious and auspicious by reciting one chapter of Bhagavad-Gita in the association of devotees. We also read one purport of Srila Prabhupad every day. There is nothing more nectarean than Srila Prabhupada's divine purports. If you would like to join our daily conference calls to read the Gita with other devotees, please dial into the below number. It is refreshing to take a quick lunch break and spiritually charge yourself by listening to Bhagavad-Gita.

         FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18

                                                          FIRST DAY OF KARTIK

THE HIDDEN MEANING OF LORD DAMODAR'S PLAYFUL PASTIMES & SIGNIFICANCE OF KARTIK MONTH

Speaker: H.G. Amala Bhakta Das

Venue: ISKCON of Silicon Valley

1965 Latham Street Mountain View CA 94040

Time: 6.30 – 8.00pm

Discourse will be followed by Arotik and Prasadam

Amal Bhakta was born in New York City and attended New York University. He moved to Santa Monica, California in 1954 and worked in motion pictures for three years. Then, after an epiphany, he embarked on a journey to find the true purpose of life. On discovering it, he returned to New York in 1957 to study and then later teach the science of ashtanga yoga. In 1963 he directed a yoga center, gradually building it up from a few regular students to about 400. He also lectured regularly, wrote articles on yoga in national magazines, occasionally demonstrated yoga exercises on TV, and counseled students privately. Although he taught some spiritual knowledge, his chief interest was in showing people how to achieve a healthy body and a serene mind.

In 1976, wanting to deepen his realization of the Divine, he moved to West Los Angeles to study at the ISKCON temple various aspects of Bhakti yoga (the yoga of love and devotion to God) under the famous spiritual master A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. From this highly advanced teacher, Amal Bhakta was initiated into techniques that enabled him to attain and maintain inner peace, joy, and strength continuously, even under the most trying conditions. He also became an expert in explaining some of India's ancient classics, such as the Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharata, with a view to helping people acquire virtue, wisdom, self-knowledge and God-realization.

Amal Bhakta still resides near the same temple in Los Angeles, teaching, counseling, and lecturing regularly, but he also travels extensively to other states and countries, performing similar services. He has also written the four published books displayed on this website, and has produced, directed, and narrated hundreds of hours of audio books, both dramatic and non-dramatic, mostly written by his spiritual master, for Krishna Productions. Amal Bhakta's books are about India's divine incarnations and saints, and are designed to assist truth-seekers in viewing ideal devotees of God to model their lives around.
