Welcome to ISV for the auspicious Gita Jayanthi Festival - Advent of Srimad Bhagavad Gita and much more!

                            http://iskconsiliconvalley.com/

Dear Friends,

Hope this meets you all well.

This week marks the auspicious advent of Srimad Bhagavad Gita also known as the Gita Jayanthi festival. It is an annual celebration to commemorate the day when Lord Krishna rendered His philosophical teachings - immortalized in the epic Mahabharata - to prince Arjuna on the first day of the 18-day battle of Kurukshetra. When prince Arjuna refused to fight against his cousins, the Kauravas in the battle, Lord Krishna expounded the truth of life and the different processes of yoga to him, thereby giving birth to one of the world's greatest scriptures, the Gita. The Bhagavad Gita is organized in 18 chapters and contains 700 verses. In its true meaning, the word 'yoga' means 'the process of linking'. It refers to the process of linking ourselves and our activities to the Supreme Being. Bhagavad Gita answers questions regarding the existence of the body, soul, material and spiritual worlds, duties of a man and much more. Many great philosophers and thinkers such as Emerson, Thoreau, Gandhi, Einstein etc. have lauded the value of Bhagavad Gita in their lives.

With great happiness in our hearts, we extend a warm invitation to you and your family to celebrate the Gita Jayanthi festival at ISV this week. Also this week is filled with wonderful activities with a special kirtan night on Wednesday and Harinam sankirtana on Friday at Palo Alto. We request you to join us for these ecstatic events and give us your valuable association.

BHAJAN NIGHT

Please join us to meditate on the beautiful forms of the Deity and chant to your heart's content. Krishna notices chanters even if they don't notice Him - and He thinks of them. As said one of the Acharyas, "When someone chants the Lord's name, the Lord's mind dwells on him. Krishna thinks, "This person belongs to Me. I will always protect him!". Chanting the holy names in Kirtan creates deep impressions and attracts the Lord.

HARINAM SANKIRTANA @ DOWNTOWN PALO ALTO

When: Friday, December 13th @ 6.59pm (Please come as early as possible)

Where: Palo Alto, University Avenue

(The cross street will be either Emerson or Bryant, depending on the best facility available. So if you don't see devotees at University and Emerson, go east toward Bryant and look there!)

In one of the purports in Bhagavad Gita, Srila Prabhupada says, "As stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the incarnation in the Age of Kali is Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who spread the worship of Krsna by the Sankirtana movement (congregational chanting of the holy names) and spread Krsna consciousness throughout India. He predicted that this culture of Sankirtana would be broadcast all over the world, from town to town and village to village. Lord Caitanya as the incarnation of Krsna, the Personality of Godhead, is described secretly but not directly in the confidential parts of the revealed scriptures, such as the Upanisads, Mahabharata, Bhagavatam, etc. The devotees of Lord Krsna are much attracted by the Sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya. This avatara of the Lord does not kill the miscreants, but delivers them by His causeless mercy." (BG 4.8 Purport)
